Philly based Emandolynn Music has released the third compilation in
their Rare soul series "Rare Soul, Vol 3". The compilation consists of recording by three artists, Carolynn Porter, Sharisma and The Delights.
Carolynn Porter "Away With You" / "You're The Reason My Heart Beats" were written and produced by Manny Campbell and released Chester,
PA, label Monica possibly around 1969 as the only other single on the
label is dated then. The two other tracks "I Want You" and "Which Way Is It To Utopia" were both previously Unreleased until appearing on a 2021 digital
compilation "All My Life (The Songs Of Manny Campbell)"
Sharisma was a group from Wilmington,
Delaware who met Manny Campbell (Soulville Productions) at a show
and then traveled to Philadelphia to record with him in the hope
of completing an album. They started recording an album in 1969-70
at the famed Sigma Sounds studios but before it was completed the
group disbanded because some members were drafted for the
Vietnam War. I can find no evidence of the three tracks on this compilation
being previously released.
The Delights "Listen To Me Girl" was a previously unissued Philadelphia recording again until
featuring on the above compilation along with "But Now We're Sure". It was released by Soul Junction in March 2017 along with the
wonderful Tearra "Just Loving You". The group were made up of teenage
singers from Chester, PA, who had sung backing sessions for the likes
of The Delfonics, The Stylistics and The O'Jays. Two were cousins of
Manny Campbell, brothers Keith 'Toppie' and Ellis Hill and their
cousin Jaime Hill and another friend with the lead female singer
called Peaches. They initially sang backing on some of Campbell's
other groups such as The Nurons and Manny decided to put them together
as a group. These two sides were their first recordings in 1968. They
progressed to record two single on Phil-L.A. of Soul in 1975-76.
