B.B. King [2022] - The Philadelphia Re-edit Sessions [Simpson Uniquity]

The next set of Paul Simpson The Philadelphia Re-edit Sessions was released on Tuesday (19 Jul 2022). It's a bit of a 'left field' choice being B.B. King

Don't forget that these are only ever available from Bandcamp for a limited two week period so this one will be gone by 2 Aug!

The album consists of four tracks from "To Know You Is To Love You" (1973) and five from "Friends" (1974) both released on ABC.

Both albums were recorded at the famed Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia and produced by Dave Crawford who wrote the Candi Staton's hit "Young Hearts Run Free". He also contributed to the writing of most of the tracks although  "To Know You Is To Love You" was written by Stevie Wonder and Syreeta Wright, "Baby I'm Yours" by Van McCoy (first recorded by Barbara Lewis in 1965) and "Respect Yourself" by Luther Ingram and Sir Mack Rice (a US hit for Staple Singers in 1971 (one of their biggest) but, as often the case, Robert Palmer, The Kane Gang and Bruce Willis had UK pop chart success with it and the Staple Singers didn't!).

Coming from these 2 LPs on ABC, this selection is very good. Paul Simpson strove to select the less blues pieces to take only the rather soulful tracks.
