The more astute may recognise the 80s track this is based on although
it's not abundantly obvious.
The song "Hypnotisin' (Get Down)" has been two years in the making for The Sweet Fantastic
co-founder Andrew Sant, originally from Manchester but now based
in Adelaide, Australia, not only due to Covid restrictions but also
being refused to use the sample by the copyright owners. Therefore he
drafted in Lesley Williams to reimagine the vocals. The North Street
West crew, Ashley Beedle, Darren Morris and Jo Wallace, collaborated on the remix.
F*CLR Records pronounced F-Star-Clear is based in Ramsgate, Kent (UK)
and is the brainchild of Jo Wallace and releases house music.
If you haven't yet worked out what the song is based on it's
Raw Silk's "Do It To The Music" from 1982 on the classic New York disco label West End. The group was formed by Ron Dean
Miller and Bert Reid of Crown Heights Affair (who co-wrote the track)
who recruited
Jessica Cleaves,
Valerie Pettiford
and Tenita Jordan.
Valerie is the lead vocalist on the song and had been cast in the
role of the Dance Captain in the Broadway musical 'Sophisticated Ladies' while Tenita was an understudy to Jennifer Holliday in the show 'Dreamgirls'. Both also appeared in the film version of 'The Wiz'. Tenita
released a solo album "Tenita" in 1986 and a few singles in 1985-86. She
died aged 57 in 2018.
Jessica Cleaves was previously a member of
Friends of Distinction,
Earth Wind and Fire
and
Funkadelic. She worked on EWF's first two albums "Last Day and Time" and
"Head to the Sky". She then married and left the business for a while. She
moved to Detroit and met and worked with George Clinton and featured on
several of Parliament and Funkadelic albums. She died in 2014 aged
65.
Valarie Pettiford has gone on to have a successful acting career.
The EP, consisting of four different mixes, was released 28 Jan 2022
and seems to be only available via
Bandcamp
at present.
