GeeQ [2021] - Disco Nights [Self Released]

A brand new jazz funk mix of GQ's dance classic "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" by GeeQ (Glenn Worthington). I'm still waiting for some further info from Glenn about the track but sounds like the original track has been overlaid either with some original trumpeting or another track which I don't immediately recognise.

GQ started out in 1968 as Sabu & The Survivors named after the nickname of group bassist Keith 'Sabu' Crier who was the uncle of Keith Sweat. I don't believe that they recorded anything under this name. In the early 70s they changed their name to The Rhythm Makers and signed to Vigor (a subsidiary to De-Lite named after one of De-Lite's founders Fred Vigorito) where they released an album and half a dozen singles between 1974-76. In 1978 they changed their name again to GQ (standing for Good Quality) and signed with Arista. "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" was their first single and just missed out on a top 40 place on the UK pop charts reaching #42 in March 1979. It got to #1 on US R&B chart and #12 on Hot 100.

They released three albums on Arista between 1979-81 and later, in 1999, released "The GQ Tribute Album" which consisted of covers of Marvin Gaye and Billy Stewart songs. They had already recorded Stewart's "Sitting In The Park" and "Do I Love You" as singles.
