Mink Slide are duo Tariq Nasheed (producer/vocalist) and Johny
D (DJ/dancer).
Their latest (and third) album "Funk On Wheels" was released 1 Oct 2021. It's another one that's a bit of a 'cheek' to call an album as of the ten tracks four are interludes and one is an instrumental of another track so only really five tracks! It's a sort of 'concept' album with the interludes being an announcer in a roller skating rink and the music has an 80s retro, yet contemporary feel.
The two tracks gaining most attention are "Slide To You" and "Fine With Me", with "Phone Down" possibly being the most contemporary until the rock guitar comes in!
The other two tracks utilise heavy use of the vocoder, which is hardly surprising as they feature Andre Troutman (so called King of the Talkbox) who is related to Zapp's Roger Troutman who possibly instigated the whole thing in the 80s (although Herbie Hancock did it in 1978 with "I Thought It Was You").
It seems to be creeping in more and more, and as far as I'm concerned should have nothing to do with 'soul' music and should stay firmly rooted in the 80s where it belongs!
