A month ago I posted a compilation by Gwendolyn Collins which featured tracks from her two Storytelling albums and a few additional ones which have been released as singles. It's a great way to catch up with her music if you are new to it as the fourteen track album is only just over a fiver!
One of the tracks on the second Storytelling album (also included on the compilation) featured Mycah Chevalier, who has just released a new single of her own "I Can See Through You" on 17 Sep 2021.
Mycah's new single features Zach Celinder (Zachariuas William Celinder) who, unless it is an incredible coincidence, is a multi-instrumentalist / songwriter / producer from Copenhagen also known as Zac Williams.
Celinder also features on a new single "I'm Not Done Tey" by Sol! released a week later on 24 Sep 2021. Both tracks were played on the latest Soul Sorts show in the second hour.
Another 'curiosity' is that the Gwendolyn Collins track she appeared on also featured Sydni Marie who released an album called "Sankofa" in 2016, the same title used by Stokley on his latest album.
Now being more curious of the meaning of Sankofa, I discovered that it is a West African concept derived from a mythical bird that flies forward whilst looking backward with an egg (representing the future) in it's mouth - this symbolically means that to understand the present and to ensure the future you must know your past i.e. your roots.
