The Spinners [2021] - 'Round The Block And Back Again [Peak Records] (Full Album)

Having already pre-released three singles from "'Round The Block And Back Again", the first album of new material from The Spinners for over thirty years ("Down To Business" 1989) is released today. Ironically the first single released was "Cliché" which unfortunately was exactly that! Thankfully, there are much better tracks on the album.

An odd choice is a cover of The Tymes "So Much In Love" first recorded in 1963 as a doo wop song followed by a (better) 70s version on their 1974 "Trustmaker" album.

The album will probably need a few listens as nothing really jumps out at me as particularly standout. The tracks that did appeal were the opening track "I'm In My Prime" which is unmistakeably Spinners, "Down For The Count", the last single released "Vivid Memories", "Love Never Changes" and the ballad "I'm Looking For My Baby".

I'm not sure the album will win over new fans but may keep non-demanding existing fans happy as it's traditional fare from the group whose heyday was in the 70s and early 80s. Only Henry Farnborough remains from the original line up, who was a founding member when the group was started 67 years ago in 1954. Surely there can't be any other groups still in existence for so long with an original member present?
