If you read the recent
UK Soul Chart Breakers
post this week you may have noticed a couple of tracks which seemed to
come from nowhere (i.e. Gemia Burns, Stylistics), well they are actually from a new compilation
'Captivating Grooves, Volume One' released 14 May 2021.
There are few other decent tracks on the album including Ali Woodson &
Freda Payne, Brenda Lee Eager & Grady Harrell and Clif Payne (which are probably the
best tracks in my view), so I thought I may as well post the full
album. I think it's a mixture of old and new tracks (not least on the basis that Maurice White died in 2016!).
Clif Payne, for me, is the standout track. It was released on a Platinum Garage album '100' in 2020, but I think it may have been released as a single prior to that in May 2018. He also released a duet with Freda Payne in 2016 'No Pain, No Gain' which got a couple of Nigel Lowis remixes.
Preston Glass was involved in all of the tracks (either writing,
arranging, producing or performing) (Gemia Burns is his
daughter) and he and soul journalist (Blues & Soul back in the
day) David Nathan are behind the label. Read more on their
