Tarrey Torae [2022] - Catching Feelings [Word & Soul] (Full Album)

Tarrey Torae (Richardson) from Chicago had UK soul chart hit (#1 on Global Soul Chart) last year with "In Time" and followed it on Christmas Day with "If Love Was" which was a good tune but seemed to get lost over the festive period.

She has a new album out today (25 Mar 2022) "Catching Feelings" which is all new material and doesn't contain the last two singles.

I think it may take a few listens to full appreciate as all tracks are all ballads. The vocals and production are exquisite. A few tracks stood out on first listen: "Take Me Home", "Meant To Be" and a duet with her husband J. Ivy, "Some Day".

Also included are videos for her last two singles.

Tarrey Torae [2021] - If Love Was [Word & Soul]

Tarrey Torae's last single in Sep 2021 "In Time" reached the top of the UK soul charts and was a SoulStrutter Selection of the Week on release.

She has released a new single "If Love Was" on Christmas day which most likely passed most by. Perhaps not quite as 'instant' as her last single but oozes quality all the same.

I noticed that she posted a video of "In Time" on her YouTube channel at the end of October which has not been previously posted, so it's here to remind you of her last single.

Tarrey Torae [2021] - IN TIME [Word & Soul]

Chicago's Tarrey Torae (Richardson) is not a name I've come across before but she has been around for quite a while as she released an album in 2005 as part of duo J. Ivy & Tarrey Torae.

J. Ivy is James Ivy Richardson II, the son of a well known Chicago DJ with the same name but who went by the name Jim Richards on WVON. J. Ivy and Tarrey Torae married in Sep 2005 after dating for six years. As the album is titled "For Better Or Worse", I imagine it was recorded around the time they married.

It would appear that she has been in heavy demand for background vocals and as a featured artist as she is a six time Apollo winner and has appeared on two Grammy winning albums by John Legend ("Get Lifted") and Kanye West ("The College Drop Out").

She has performed on, and shared, stages with some legendary artists which reads like a who's who of soul such as Patti LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, Gil Scott-Heron, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Usher, Anthony Hamilton to name just a few. Not only is she a singer but also a songwriter and actor in theatre, film and TV.

Her debut solo album "The Sweetest Survivor" was self-released in 2018 with all the songs self-written.

Needless to say, she wrote her latest single "IN TIME" released on 23 Sep 2021. This is real quality, a well written, produced and delivered song.
