Steve Facey [2021] - Jingo (Dont Stop The Party)

Yes it is 'that tune' recorded in 1969 by Santana on their self-titled debut album but possibly better known from the Cuban percussionist Cándido (Cándido Camero Guerra) 1979 9:20 12" version on Salsoul. Australian DJ/producer Dr (Greg) Packer also did a re-work of the tune in 2017. 

The Santana version is somehow incorrectly credited to Aaron Copeland on the album label (who was more of a classical music composer with over 1,500 writing credits to his name on Discogs). It was written by Nigerian drummer Michael Babatunde Olatunji who recorded it on his debut album "Drums Of Passion" in 1960 with the title Gin-go-lo-ba (Drums of Passion) (sometimes listed as jin-go-lo-ba or jin-go-low-bah). Fat Boy Slim (DJ Norman Cook) covered it in 2004.

DJ Steve Facey has done a complete re-work with vocals by Vanessa Haynes (Incognito) with a new hook "Don't Stop The Party" and new percussion section played by Wimer Sifontes and a sax solo by Kevin Reynolds.

Santana [1992] - Somewhere In Heaven [Polydor #314 513 197-2]

I posted a live version of this by Santana tribute band The Magic Of Santana which featured ex members Alex Ligertwood and Tony Lindsay.  Here's the full 10 minute version by Santana from 1992.

This song defies classification as it has elements of soul, jazz, gospel and rock all rolled into this masterpiece. It featured on the 1992 'Milagor' album and was released as a single which unbelievable failed to chart anywhere in the world! Nearly 30 years on it still sounds amazing.
