Lenny Williams [1974/1977] - Problem Solver [Warner Bros. #BS 2797/ABC #ABC 4194]

Tucked away on the flip side to Lenny Wiliams' UK Top 40 hit (#38 in Nov 1977) "Shoo Doo Fu Fu Ooh!" is "Problem Solver" (so very easy and cheap to find) which is an updated version of a track on his 1974 debut solo album "Pray For The Lion" after leaving Tower Of Power. Both good versions but the tempo is upped on the '77 version.

The first version wasn't ever released as a single and I don't believe that the 1977 version was released as single stateside as, although there is a listing for it on 45Cat, there's no label scan for this side (and I've never seen one) and the cat.no is the same for the release which had "Trust In Me" on the flip.

Posted last week from promo, the new single by Lenny Williams featuring Shirley Jones (of 70s/80s Philly group The Jones Girls) with a song Lenny has released on three of his albums "Can't Nobody Do Me Like You Do" was released yesterday.

Astute readers will recall I posted the original version of is song last week in lieu of this new recording of it with Lenny Williams drafting in the services of Shirley Jones. "Can't Nobody" is due for release on Friday (11 Feb 2022). It's got a Southern soul vibe.

As stated on the previous post, Lenny has recorded the song as "Can't Nobody Do Me Like You" on three of his albums between 2004 and 2015.

Lenny Williams [2004] Can't Nobody Do Me Like You [Lentom]

So why am I posting this you may wonder? Well "Can't Nobody Do Me Like You" has been a bit of an evergreen for Lenny Williams first appearing on "My Way" in 2004 followed by "It Must Be Love" in 2007 and again in 2015 on "Blues, Grooves & Other Moods". 

The song is due for imminent release again as a duet with the only surviving Jones Girl, Shirley Jones, with the title shortened to "Can't Nobody" and also a shorter running time (4 min v 5 min), but isn't available yet so I thought I'd put up this teaser for it in the meantime. 

If you wish to listen to the new duet it has been posted today on SoulTracks. There's no word of a release date there or on Lenny's website, so watch this space.
