Captain Sky [2022] - Back Together Again [Cre8tive Conceptz]

Captain Sky is the alter-ego of Daryl L. Cameron who is a veteran P-funk musician from Chicago who has been active since 1978 releasing four albums  between 1978-89. He was name checked by Sugarhill Gang in "Rappers Delight".

He re-emerged last year with an album "All Of The Above" which contained a few cover versions and he's back with a new single which continues the 80s Soul Weekender theme with a cover of Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway's 1979 soul weekender anthem "Back Together Again" which features none other than Yvonne Gage on female vocals.

Captain Sky [2022] - Look Me up (Extended Mix) [Cre8tive Concepts]

Exactly a month ago today Captain Sky released an album "All Of The Above" which featured several covers, one of which was of Blue Magic's "Look Me Up" (1973). Today he releases an extended version. The album version wasn't short, 5:39, but the new version extends it to 7:14.

Captain Sky [2022] - All of the Above [Creative Conceptz Entertainment] (Full Album)

Captain Sky was mentioned only a few days ago on the Yvonne Gage album post as she was a backing singer from him in the early 80s and it was mentioned that he had recently released a new single "Under Tha n-Fluence" on 6 Jun. Well his new album "All of the Above" was released yesterday (19 Jul 2022). The single is included a the opening track.

A few highlights are some of the covers, "Marvin's Message" is a jazzed up cover on "What's Going On" (a version of which he released as a single in Apr 2021),  "Look Me Up" is a cover of Blue Magic (also released as a single in Oct 2020 but a shorter version) and Bloodstone's "Natural High" (another previously released as a single but back in Aug 2010).

Captain Sky [2022] - Under tha n-Fluence [Creative Conceptz Entertainment]

Captain Sky is the alter-ego of Daryl L. Cameron who is a veteran P-funk musician from Chicago who has been active since 1978 releasing four albums  between 1978-89. He was name checked by Sugarhill Gang in "Rappers Delight".

He has a new project in the pipeline "All Of The Above" which will be new material and some of his takes on some classics. The lead track from it is "Under tha n-Fluence" released on 6 Jun 2022.

His biggest hit was "Wonder Worm" from Dec 1978 which was his debut single from his debut album "The Adventures Of Captain Sky". There is some vintage footage of an appearance on the legendary Soul Train when he would have been 21. If you watch to the end there is a short interview with presenter Don Cornelius. 

Another track from the album, "Super Sporm", has been sampled several times by Public Enemy ("You're Gonna Get Yours") and Salt-N-Pepa "Shoop". When you listen to the breaks in it you can begin to understand why the hip-hoppers have latched onto it! Apart from the album, it appears to have only been released on a white label, single sided, Dynamic Sounds 12" in Jamaica (the orange labeled one is a bootleg) and never a 7" as it's almost 12 minutes long.
