R.I.P. Marva Hicks (5 May 1956 - 17 Sep 2022)

Marva Denise Hicks was a soul singer, actress, and composer born in Petersburg, VA. She performed in live jazz and musical theatre productions as well a TV and film. She died on Saturday.
She released just one, eponymous, album in 1991. Prior to that she released a debut single in 1978 and was a member of Eighties Ladies who released one self-titled an album in 1980 which contained their best know single "Turned On to You" which was written, arranged and produced by Roy Ayers and Edwin Birdsong. You can certainly hear the Roy Ayers influence in "Tell Him".

Another member of Eighties Ladies was Sylvia Striplin who joined from Aquarian Dream who had Gloria Jones amongst their ranks.

Her 1978 debut single "Looking Over My Shoulders" has been played on rare soul dancefloors for many years. She was also on backing vocals on Blair's 1978  dance track "Nightlife" along with Angela Winbush and others and appeared on recordings with Roy Ayers, Glenn Jones, Stevie Wonder, Commodores, Marlena Shaw, Third World, Walter & Scotty (The Whispers) and many others.

His one and only album is still interesting and represents the Soul of the 90s well.
To listen carefully.
