Keith Barrow - A Profile

Today would have been Keith Barrow's 68th birthday, he died from complications from AIDS in 1983 aged just 29. He was the son of a Chicago civil rights activists and minister Rev. Willie Taplin-Barrow known as The High Priestess of Protest who worked alongside Jesse Jackson on his 1984 presidential campaign and was godmother to Baraka Obama. Inevitably Keith  and started out as a gospel singer
By coincidence, Keith Barrow also worked with Michael Stokes mentioned on the Active Force post earlier today who produced his third album, "Physical Attraction" and his biggest hit single "You Know You Want To Be Loved".

His first release was a gospel single "Oh! Freedom" / "Alright Now" released on Jewel in 1973 from his debut eponymous album. He was briefly a member of the Hi-Lites (a different group the the one that became the Chi-Lites) before releasing another three solo albums between 1977-80, a second self-titled album in 1977, "Personal Attraction" (1978) on Columbia and  "Just As I Am" (1980) on Capitol. Only two singles dented the R&B chart with the two-stepper "You Know You Want To Be Loved" #26 1978 and the dance/disco tune "Turn Me Up" #79 1979.
