A debut single, "So Many Ways", is released today (10 Jun 2022) by Alexus J (Alexandra Johnson) from Wolverhampton (UK). Alexus has been singing since she was 3 years old brought up on old school garage, lovers rock and reggaton via her mum, soul and R&B from her dad and gospel from her gran.
She had a tough upbringing, living in a home with drugs and depression and all the problems associated with it, and buried herself in music and had to learn to be self-sufficient from a very early age becoming the backbone of the family. This put paid to her dreams of pursuing a career in music, however, she managed to persevere through all the adversity and obtained a degree in Social Work and now helps children who are going through similar circumstances.
Almost by coincidence, she shared her dreams with a friend at work who happened to be the wife of producer Tony Bean (90s group 5am and owner of 5am Records) who brought her into the studio to begin writing and recording. Her debut single "So Many Ways" was co-written with Tony Bean.
I hope you'll agree with me that this artist needs a break in life and, notwithstanding the back story, the tune stands up on its own. A fine example of 'home grown' neo soul/R&B.
