A painting by Ernie Barnes depicting a group of black dancers at the
Durham Armory in North Carolina in the 50s named "The Sugar Shack", and
used for Marvin Gaye's 1976 album "I Want You", has just sold for $15.3m at
Christie's auction on Thu 12 May sailing past the estimated guide price of
$150k-£200k.
Contrary to rumour the buyer wasn't Global Soul's Franklin Sinclair it
was a Houston based energy trader Bill Perkins.
