Kenyada Nikile (aka Kenyada Davis) is a new solo artist (singer/songwriter/actress) from Buffalo, NY who released a debut single "OMG" on 13 Aug 2021. Yesterday (4 Mar 2022) she released a full length, self-written, album "Therapy" which includes her only single "OMG".
She has featured on a few collaborations with Benny the Butcher “We Need” (2017), and Ponzo Houdini’s “Next to You” (2021) and has also played the role of Michelle in Griselda’s film “Conflicted”(2021).
The track that drew my attention to the EP is "You The One" which was pencilled in as the next single. However after a few listens I think this EP is a 'grower' with deep and emotional lyrics inspired by her difficult life experiences of being brought up in the foster system, abusive relationships and domestic abuse. I think she sounds a little like Mary J. Blige on a couple of tracks especially the closing track "Life Is What You Make It". In fact the last three tracks along with "Remember", for me, are the best on the EP, deep and soulful.
