D'Sound is a neo soul group from Oslo, Norway who are celebrating their
25th anniversary as they were formed in 1993 by drummer Kim Ofstad and
bassist Jonny Sjo when they met at Berklee College of Music in Boston,
MA, with vocalist, pianist and guitarist Simone Eriksrud joining them but left in 2018. Their debut album "Spice Of Life" followed in 1997.
It is no surprise then that their latest, and ninth, album (released 21
Jan 2022) is titled "25". Only another 35 to go to catch The Temptations!
They describe their music as a fusion of elements from acid jazz, neo soul, soul, funk, pop and
drum’n’bass.
They appeared on the blog last year with their last single, the funky "Save Some" featuring Macy Gray which is also featured on the album.
Some of the tracks that caught my attention on first listen include the
opening track "Flashback" which they released a video for on 31 Dec 2021 included below, the acid
jazz flavoured "Right Now" featuring Autumn Rowe and "Run For Cover" featuring Armi Millare, but in fact it's a pretty solid album
throughout.
