Al Wilson [2021] - The Snake (Senior Citizens Edit) [Soul Flip #FLIP-013]

I've never really been a big fan of "The Snake" by Al Wilson. I don't know what it is that turned me off, perhaps the nursery rhyme like lyrics? However, there's no denying the frantic beat behind it and it being very popular on the Northern Soul scene in it's day. This new mix gives it a new lease of life by, what I assumed to be a tongue in cheek name, 'Senior Citizen's Edit', however the name is attributed to the two guys originally from Greece Aldo Vanucci (aka Vinyl Pimp and Plymouths 14th best DJ) and Del Gazeebo who remixed it and appear to be behind the UK based Soul Flip label.

The track is paired with a reworking of Bobby Hebb's "You Don't Know What You Got Until You Lose It" from his 1966 "Sunny" album and will be available digitally and on vinyl 7" from 19 Nov 2021 via the Soul Flip BandCamp store.

I've not come across the Soul Flip label, started in 2018, before but it has an 'imitation' Stax style label design and to date has reworked a couple of dozen classic 60s soul tunes (mainly from Motown but also a few Stax numbers) over twelve releases, now thirteen. They also released a compilation album "Soul Flip Edits" in 2019 which included all sides on the first four singles along with two other tracks, which as yet haven't appeared on singles i.e. Soul Flip Edits of Bobby Taylor & The Vancouver's version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" and William Bell & Judy Clay's "Private Number".
