The ninth release on Mike Noriega's Noriega imprint out of Corona, CA,
and the third this year from Dove on the label. It's a sweet soul offering
for the lowriders and available
digitally
and on
vinyl (at $25 plus international shipping makes it quite
expensive!).
It's a cover of a record released by Gerald Trotter on Mo Do in
1968 (his only release), which he co-wrote with Bobby Nunn who also arranged and produced it and was later a member of a group called Splendor in 1979 (who recorded an album and two singles on Columbia) and recorded two albums and a handful of singles for Motown in the early 80s.
Mo Do was owned by Nunn's father William which was set up
in the basement of his house in Buffalo, NY. Bobby Nunn was one half of
the duo Bob & Gene (Eugene Coplin) who released around five 45s on Mo Do between
1967-71. In more recent years Bob & Gene have had several releases on Daptone who also released an album on them titled 'If This World Were Mine' which was recorded for Mo Do but left unreleased.
Interestingly, the flip of Gerald Trotter is
a version
of the Northern Soul monster by Marjorie Black
'One More Hurt'
released on Sue in 1965.
