Officially released (on some platforms) on Valentine's Day is a debut
single from Romeo Johnson with his take of Marvin Gaye's "'Til Tomorrow". Curiously, as with Chechi Sarai's cover of Minnie Riperton, the
DSPs are showing the release date for the original recording i.e. Feb
1983.
It's perhaps not one of Gaye's better know songs, it was his penultimate
hit single (#31 R&B), taken from his last album "Midnight Love" in 1983,
before his untimely death on 1 Apr 1984 at the hand of his own
father. It will soon be the 40th anniversary so we'll have to do something special for it.
Timothy 'Romeo' Johnson is a vocal coach from Chattanooga, TN, now
resident in Las Vegas. He has worked on both American Idol and The Voice, coaching contestants.
He began his career touring with Vesta Williams in the late 80s becoming a background
vocalist and dancer for Jody Watley. He also toured with Millie Jackson,
Rahsaan Patterson, Rufus, Teddy Riley & GUY, Blackstreet, Patti
Austin, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.
He's also a session musician performing on many recordings from the
likes of Kanye West, Snoop Dogg to Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Holliday.
