Originally previewed on Bandcamp a month ago, the third single from
London's Black Betty, "Lonely Man", is officially released today. It's provided with three mixes: vocal,
instrumental and a Bossa version and will also be made available for the vinyl addicts but not until 3 Aug.
Black Betty is Elisabeth Troy Antwi who premiered with The Family
Fortune in Dec '22 with an upbeat version of Arthur Hamilton's "Cry Me A
River" (video below), originally recorded by Julie London in 1955. The song, of course,
has been covered literally hundreds of times.
Her second single was released last month which was another cover, this
time of Eurythmics 80s hit "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)".
The
latest single is an original Boogaloo/Northern Soul style song written with Andrew Ross who also
produced it and includes Mark 'Snowboy' Cosgrove on the bongos.
She has been recording as Elisabeth Troy since the 90s and is perhaps best know featuring on MJ Cole's 2000 Top 10 hit "Crazy Love" and "Hold On To Me". In more recent years she has has worked with Fish and toured with Clean Bandit between 2013-16 and featured on a cover of Robin S club hit "Show Me Love" on their 2104 album "New Eyes".
