Born in Lexington, KT, Jessie Laine Powell grew up in a gospel household but was soon influenced by jazz through listening to the greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Nancy Wilson.
Jessie moved to Hollywood, CA, to follow her love of the stage, orchestras and jazz where she was given the opportunity of opening for Nancy Wilson. She has appeared on radio, TV and theatre but after a few years returned to her native Lexington where she teamed up with local producer and jazz artist Eric Copeland and released her debut album "On The Edge" in the summer of 2017.
The title track was later released as a single in May 2020, followed by "Like No Other" (Aug 2020). Another single, which no longer seems to be available in the usual places, was "Love Supreme" feat. smooth jazz saxophonist Marion Meadows in Mar '21 which received airplay in the UK (perhaps it was promo only?).
Her first release since then is a single "Pure Love" released on 30 Jun which features trumpeter Sam Hankins.
Yet another female soulful jazz flavoured song entering the fray along with Erica Falls, Felece Tillman and today Lena Loi. We have to say though, the trumpeting of Sam Hankins really adds another dimension to this song. He's a multi-award winning musician and adjunct music professor who has released four albums since deciding to go solo in 2011 and we believe has another due out imminently as he is holding a launch party for it on 30 Jul.
