A previously unreleased album from Portland nine-piece funk band Slickophonic has been restored from reel-to-reel tapes from a 1975
session by The Albina Music Trust, which preserves music from an under
documented era in Albina and the Greater Portland area's history. It was released 1 Feb 2021 on vinyl only.
It is predomiantly funk but there is a good cover of 'I Don't Wanna Be
Lonely Tonight' which is the song I'm highlighing (after hearing it on Mark Merry's Soul Sermon podcast). I've included a link to the complete album.
It's a song written by James Taylor who released it in 1972. There's also a great version by Ty Karim from 1973 which lay unissued until it appeared on a 2013 compilation by Kent 'The Complete Ty Karim'.
Other tracks include 'I Shot Him Down' which is a cover
of Bob Marley's 'I Shot The Sheriff' and there's also a version of Average
White Band's 'Pick Up The Pieces'.
