In no particular order other than tempo.
A straight dozen this week as the summer slump in the number of great
quality releases continues. I've selected what I think is the best
track from a good five track EP "Brown Liquor Music" from Cameo
Holliday which is well worth checking out if you appreciate
'authentic' timeless soul music. You could still be playing this in 20
plus years time which can't be said for a lot of the 'faddish' neo
stuff being released!
The full album from Midnight.Blue, "Breathe" was released on Thursday. A good album from B.B. King's
granddaughter Val B. King "So Many Ways" was released on Friday but only on Bandcamp so couldn't be included
as with a few other bits n pieces on promo only.
There's been a bit of a buzz over "Kobe" by
Kayra in the last couple of weeks on promo which got
released on Friday on a full album "Karma" but there's nothing else as good on the album (except perhaps "Milton" IMO) including the remix
which strips it back and, for me, strips the 'guts' out of it!
It boiled down to a choice between Kayra and Frank McComb for this
week's
SoulStrutter Selection of the Week
from the playlist but, as they are both already attracting plenty of
attention and airplay, I'm going for the
Val B. King album "So Many Ways" as I'm not sure that many know about
it as yet.
