Ms. Kriss [2021] - Blacbuttafly [BlacButtaFly Music Group] (Full EP)

Ms. Kriss released "Night Cap" in July which did quite well on the UK soul charts.  Today (12 Oct 2021) she has released a new five track EP "Blacbuttafly" which includes "Night Cap".

I hesitate to call this a debut EP, even though only this EP and "Night Cap" appear on DSPs, as I believe her to be Kristin Stimage who has released material as long as 6 years ago on her SoundCloud page, although of course they may never have been officially released. Also she sound's almost 'too accomplished' to be a new artist.

It would appear that she is originally from St. Louis, MO, but now lives in Atlanta, GA.

This is a very good 'debut' EP. I can't recommend a standout track as they are all equally as good and it would be a bit churlish to choose one.

A. Lynn [2021] - Win Win [Soular System Sound]

Anthony Lynn is from Long Beach, CA, and is the lead singer of Soular System. He released his debut solo EP "Win Win" yesterday (11 Oct 2021). It's blue-eyed neo soul affair.

He had a hand in writing all tracks with three others who I assume to be members of Soular System?

The standout tracks are "Moondrip" and "Love You So" which I warmed to after a couple of listens. Actually the more I listen to the whole EP the better it gets!

Coast To Coast [2021] - Coast To Coast [Athens Of The North] (Full Album)

Coast To Coast were a Queens, NYC, band founded in the late 70s and came about after a meeting of minds between Mark Beiner and Ben Iverson who met whilst working in the same supermarket. Iverson had been in a 50s/60s group Ben Iverson & The Hornets and recorded as Ben Iverson & The Nue Dey Express in 1972. He also wrote for, and managed, Crown Heights Affair.

Beiner was only 17 when they met in 1978 and was an aspiring songwriter who wrote a song about his ex girlfriend Paula Vasta who's middle name was Marie who he called Paula Marie. This became the title of their first single which was released in 1982 and is the first track that has been pre-released from a full album due out on 22 Oct 2021 from Athens Of The North.

NB it states full album on title above, which it will be when released on 22 Oct as the dead links will become live!

Kendra Morris [2021] - This Life / Who We Are [Karma Chief Records]

Another double-sider from Kendra Morris on Colemine subsidiary Karma Chief which follows "Catch The Sun" / "When We Would Ride" released at the beginning of Sep.

Both "This Life" and "Who We Are" were co-written with Jeremy Page and released on 24 Sep 2021.

The preferred side is "This Life" which has a dramatic/orchestral, almost Bond theme like, feel, whilst "Who We Are" veers towards the pop spectrum.

It's a difficult one to pigeon-hole, but presented for your 'delectation'! Soul? .. you decide!

Frank McComb & Kathy Kosins Feat. Najee [2021] - I Gotta Pinch Myself [Self Released]

Only last week a track featuring Frank McComb was posted on the debut album "Who Am I" from  Lina Nikol, however the track in question, "All I Need", has already been released as a single in 2018.

A new single "I Gotta Pinch Myself (I Must Be Dreaming)" duetting this time with Kathy Kosins and features Najee on sax is due for release 14 Oct 2021.

Kathy Kosins is a jazz singer from Detroit who started her career as a backing vocalist performing with artists such as Was (Not Was), Michael Henderson. Sweet Pea Atkinson, Millie Scott and David Peaston amongst others in the 80s.

Frank McComb was signed with Motown early in his career and recorded two unreleased albums. Some tracks found their way into the public domain via bootlegged CDs titled "The Motown Sessions". It was eventually released legitimately as "The Truth Vol. 2" in 2006.

His first official release was "Love Stories" in 2000 from which "(They're Gonna Be) Looking At You" got plenty of rotation on UK modern soul dance floors as did several tracks from "The Motown Sessions' including his rendition of Steve Wonder's "Golden Lady", "Love Is On Its Way" and "Somebody Like You" which still sounds great after years of not listening to it!

Rina Chanel [2021] - Sweetest Of Melody [PhillieBOP Productions]

Rina Chanel (from Virginia Beach, VA) was a backing singer with Tracy Hamlin before starting her solo career last year. She appeared on the blog back in March with her third single "More Than Enough" which followed up her UK Soul Chart top 10 hit "Made" almost exactly a year ago (Sep 2020), which in turn followed her debut single "Worthy" released in Jan 2020.

She also featured on Raymond Barton's 2017 EP "If Only For Love" on "Don't Give Up On Love".

Her latest single "Sweetest Of Melody" is due for release on her birthday which is 6 Nov 2021. The male vocalist on the track is Senghor Robinson.
