Jeff Darko [2024] - Feel Alright (Quiet Storm Remix) [Self Released] PROMO

British-Ghanaian neo-soul singer/songwriter Jeff Darko is set to release a Quiet Storm Remix of a single "Feel Alright" that he released last April on 21 Feb.

It's a much smoother and more laid back and soulful mix which we actually prefer to the original.

Darko describes his music as Psychedelic Gospel and made his recording debut in Apr '21. He has now followed it with a further five singles and a five track EP consisting of his first three singles and two remixes of the third titled "Strange Dreams".  He grew up in an African Christian home, on a diet of Gospel music and Soul from where his musical identity is rooted.

He will be make a live appearance on 7 Feb at 'Lar Lar Land Presents: A Psychedelic Gospel Experience' at London’s Paper Dress Vintage (Hackney).

Shonda English [2023] - There Wouldn't Be a Me (Radio Edit) [Gospel Diva Records]

You may recall a gospel album "Travelin'" by Shonda English from last august which had a few scratching their heads as a couple of tracks had seen the light of day several years earlier. Well she has released the first single from it since then, a radio edit of "There Wouldn't Be a Me" which is cut by 33s seconds from the albums opening track.

The official lead single was  "Step Right In" released in Feb '23 but "Feels Good" was also a single around 2018 we think.

In conjunction with SoulStrutter, Steve Aggasild held an interview with Shonda last October.

Having begun singing at the tender age of three and playing the piano by ear at the age of five, Shonda is also organist, percussionist, choral conductor, composer, radio personality, actress and novelist. In 2013 she left her teaching career to pursue a musical career full time and to write her first novel "Oni's Coffee" under the pseudonym E’ShaVonne.

Her father is the late Bishop William T. English, a former gospel recording artist for HOB records and the album coincides with the tenth anniversary of his death on 20 Aug '13.

Shonda also presents a weekly international radio show 'The Old Landmark Gospel Hour'. Her knowledge of gospel music she attributes to her father.

Soulpersona & Carl Hudson [2024] - Moonraker [Self Released]

A new single from Soulpersona (Morgan Howell) & Carl Hudson, a jazz/funk instrumental called "Moonraker" is available via Bandcamp as of today.

It's from an a forthcoming album which has been in progress since lockdown and features musicians including Terry Lewis (Guitars) Andy Tolman (Bass) Gabriel Nuzzoli (Percussion) Bryan Corbett (Trumpet, Flugel & Trombone) and Richard Beesley (Saxophones).

Carl Hudson is originally from Boston, Lincs., and has been playing keyboards for Culture Club since 2015. He's also played for artists such as Leroy Hutson, Leon Ware, Omar, STR4TA, Emilie Sande. Jones Girls and Jean Carn amongst others.

Maë Defays [2024] - A Deeper Ocean [Just Looking Productions / Blue Lava] (Full Album)

The Latin jazz feel of the new album by Paris based, singer, songwriter, guitarist,  Maë Defays may be explained by her  Guadeloupe roots. She studied at Paris' prestigious Didier Lockwood Music Centre (CMDL) jazz institution. 

Her debut project "Whispering" was delivered in Jan 2020 after two singles. Two more singles and a five track EP, "Morning Rain", followed before two 2023 singles ("Mangrove" (Sep '23) and "High Tide" Nov '23) which feature on her first full length twelve track  LP "A Deeper Ocean".

Our choice cut from the album, which is already gaining attention, is "Diamonds In The Rough" for which there is a music video so the likelihood is that it may be the next single. There are also music videos for the previous two singles (both strong tracks) which are all shot in her native Guadeloupe.

Other recommended tracks include "Rivers Of Your Mind" and "Follow".

Myles Sanko [2024] - Dream Chaser [213 Music]

The timeless, classy and ever consistent Myles Sanko from London has released his latest single, "Dream Chaser", today.

We last heard from him featuring on Nicola Conte's "Into The Light Of Love" single in Jun '23 which also appeared on Conte's "Umoja" album in July. In Sep '23 he was the featured vocalist on a single, "Cold", by edbl along with multi-instrumentalist Jackson Mathod.

Earlier last year he released an excellent live album "Live at Philharmonie Luxembourg" in March.
