Timotha Lanae [2013] - Gettin' To Know You [Savannah Street Music]

Back a few years for these from Timotha Lenae from her album Red released 2 Jul 2013 but still available.

Timotha is from Minneapolis, she was a finalist in American Idol in 2007. Red was her debut album in 2013 and was #1 in UK Soul chart.  Her follow-up album 'Rewind' was released 1 Dec 2014.

I think you'll agree that she's a 'class act'.

You can listen to both albums here 'Red' / 'Rewind'

Here she is singing it live at Jazz FM studios London in 2013.

Another track from the album 'People Pleaser' released as a single 8 Jan 2013.

'My Man' also from Red

NOTE It 'look's like the video has been removed ... but click on arrow and it will play!

'Radio' originally came out on Red as a remix, but the original version was released for 'Rewind' without the rap.

The only other recordings I can find are:

Open Road Feat. Ryan Liestman (also from Minneapolis) released Jan 2016 which has a reggae vibe to it.

'For The Sake Of The Children' a soundtrack from a stage play of the same name released in Sep 2010 which is a deep and soulful tune.

Audrey V. [2021] - December [Self-Released] (Full EP)

Just released today (15 Jan 2021), a 4 track live EP from Audrey V. (Valentine) which I would describe as classy neo soul/jazz for adults.

The best track is the featured track 'Go'.

She put out a track called 'My Way' back in March 2020. I found a facebook page which I believe is her but it hasn't been updated since Oct 2018. She describes herself as a 23 year old upcoming R&B singer/songwriter from Chicago, IL.

Listen to Full EP here

I thought that such an 'accomplished' vocalist must surely have some other material, so I went digging and found some live clips and bring you 3 of the best.

'Take My Time/Between the Sheets' Mash-Up at Sofar Chicago on 11 May 2019 .

Alicia Keys' - Fallin' from Jan 2019 - she does an excellent job!

From Nov 2018 singing Brandy's Brokenhearted. Another flawless performance. She is certainly a new talent to watch out for if she gets the breaks and the right material.

Sunstone [2021] - America [Sunstone] (Full Album)

Hot off the press (released 14 Jan 2021) is an album from Sunstone titled 'America'.  It contains a couple of 'decent' tracks but the rest of the album I could take or, more likely, leave as it's a bit 'samey' and R&B for my taste!  These two tracks won't set the world alight either, but just keeping you up to date with what's out here.

You can judge for yourself as Full Album here

Tell U When I'm Done (feat. K.O.)

Ths track has been around since Oct 2020 so would guess it was released as a single prior to the album release.

Ride W Me

Marcus Johnson [2000] - On My Mind [Lightyear #54410-2]

Here's one I've just found on my hard drive from Washington D.C. jazz pianist Marcus Johnson from his 2000 debut album Urbangroove - a great little toe-tapping stepper.

To date, since his debut in 2000, he's released 15 albums with another one 'Ballads In My Voice' imminent.

Jazmine Sullivan [2021] - On It [RCA]

New album from Jazmine Sullivan, 'Heaux Tales', was released 8 Jan 2021, her fourth album to date. I've been through it and the only track remotely of interest to soul listeners is 'On It'.  I guess this is one of the benefits of digital, you can just buy this track and not shell out for the whole album!

Tae [2020] - Be Real [Tae Music & Art] (Full Album)

A 5 track EP released on 25 Dec 2020 from another artist I can find no info about.  The title track 'Be Real' is currently getting airplay in the UK.

Her sound is a bit 'adrogynous' in that I can't really tell is she's black or white but suspect she's a white singer, perhaps even Asian from her name?

I've listed the tracks in order of (my) preference.  Undoubtedly the top track is 'Be Real', but I quite like 'All The Time'.

Be Real

All The Time

Let Me Go

Stay

Nine To Five

Tree [2020] - Can We / Love [BLK Entertainment]

About all I can't find out about this artist is that she is Samoan!  'Can We' was originally released in 4 Dec 2018 and is currently receiving airplay as it has been included on her new/debut album 'Mrs. Tree'.

To be honest upon first hearing, it's easily the  best track on the album which consists of a lot of acoustic material (Prayer (Sing For You), In My Life, No Fear & Everything To Me) and a couple of reggae tracks (Think Again & Don't Let Me Go), a track sung in Samoan (Afio Ane Loa), one track 'For Real' is just weird with vocals played backwards in places and includes rapping,  and 3 interludes within the 14 tracks, so that just leaves Can We, Love, No One Like You.

Can We

Love

Press Play601 [2020] - Make You Feel Good [Cape Town]

Another one (along with MonTrell) linked to Andre Lee (Andrew L Caples). Released 10 Aug 2020 on Cape Town records.  This is my kinda stuff.  I Like this one a lot.

Here's a track they recorded live in 2016 'Slow Grind' featuring Bridget Shield at Annie Mae's in Jackson.

They are no youngsters and look like they've been around for quite a while.  Being the 'sleuth' that I am, I googled the booking info number to discover that are a band from Jackson, Mississippi.

I also found another clip from 2016 of them rehearsing The Gap Band's Outstanding segued with Everday People / A Woman's Got To Have It and several other tracks - from these tracks I'd suspect that they grew up in the 80s and have probably been performing since then?  The clip and several others were posted by Greg Pippin so I wonder if he is a member of the group?

Another clip of them performing Never Too Much live .. and now I'm convinced that the lead singe IS Greg Pippin!

MonTrell [2020] - Girl Come Go With Me [CapeTown Records]

Released 11 Aug 2020.  He's released a few singles over the last few years and has appeared as a featured artist on several others.  He is associated with Andre Lee (Andrew Lee Caples Jr.), because, as well as a single from 2019 which features Andre Lee, all this releases credit Andrew Lee Caples Jr. as publisher.

MonTrell Feat. Andre' Lee [2019] - Let's Go Dancing [Cape Town]

PC Band [2020] - Love Therapy [Perfect Combination LLC] (Full Album)

From the album Love Therapy released 4 Sep 2020.  Note the Amazon album is only 7 tracks but the YT link has 3 additonal tracks added.

PC (Perfect Combination) Band are a 5 piece male neo soul group from Marion, Arkansas who have supported artists such as Calvin Richardson, Syleena Johnson and KeKe Wyatt.

Reel People Feat. Eric Roberson [2020] - Save A Lil Love [Reel People Music]

Best track from the 4 track EP Dancing On The Moon released 20 Nov 2020.

Full playlist here.

From the video 'blurb':
"On 20th November 2020, Reel People roll back into town with their first original material in over a decade. The Dancing On The Moon EP, produced by core members Oli Lazarus, Mike Patto and Toni Economides, will lead out a brand new album, Love2, later this year. Weaving contemporary R&B vibes into the collective’s classic, groove-fired flow, the album promises a powerful evolution of the Reel People sound.

EP opener I Never Knew is pure pomp, pace and purpose – fizzing bars courtesy of Arrested Development’s Speech riding an irresistible cosmic groove in fine style and expressing perfectly the out-and-out euphoria of love. If I Was Your Man, fronted by Michael Champion, bounces standout R&B vocals over some seriously swaggering piano stomp and soul personality, whilst Atlanta songstress Chantae Cann applies subtle, silky finesse to Dance In Her Eyes. Here, Cann’s dreamy vocals segue into moody synth-funk topped by Philly rapper Dayne Jordan’s dextrous rhymes, adding further intensity to this time-honoured tale of fleeting dancefloor love. Save A Lil Love rounds the package off, New Jersey stalwart Eric Roberson as engaging as ever over a zinging future-soul fusion of spacy synths and pulsing b-line.

Dancing On The Moon EP  tells us that the collective are totally back. New songs, new vibes, but the same soulful soothe, groove and sparkle. Upcoming album Love2 promises to build on this, with further guest turns from Raheem DeVaughn, Paula, Muhsinah and Darlene McCoy. Stay tuned for more Reel People music soon."

The James Hunter Six [2020] - Never [Daptone]

The James Hunter Six released 'Nick Of Time' back in March 2020. It's full of throwback 60s style tunes. Here's my favourite track from the album 'Never'.

SHINDRUM [2021] - Who Am I [SHINDRUM Studio] Selected Tracks

A new album from SHINDRUM released 3 Jan 2021. An eclectic mix of Soul, Jazz, Rap and even Rock.  I've selected a few of the best soul/jazz tracks. It's certainly original material from this young Korean group on what appears to be their debut album.

Soul MAK Feat. Jinbo

How do I describe this? Neo soul / jazz funk setat a stepper's pace perhaps?

Sail Up Feat. THAMA, hooch

A neo soul stepper sung in both Korean (?) and English by THAMA.

Empty

A long bass solo intro followed by a longer instrumental when a rock'ish guitar solo then launches this into a nice jazz funky instrumental groover which then turns a bit 'rockish' about two thirds through. A little confused.

Overthink Feat. Sam Kim

Sweet and mellow

Alli' Starr [2020] - Situationship [Expansion]

This track is featured on the Luxury Soul Family 2021 compilation just released which I posted a few days ago.  Alli' Starr's Situationship was produced by Chuckii Booker (who is Barry White's God son). It was released 4 Sep 2020.

Alli' Starr [2020] - Old Flame [ATG]

Released 17 Mar 2020

Alli Starr [2017] - Nothing Compares [ATG]

The only other material I can find from her is 'Nothing Compares' released 9 Dec 2017.

Ian Isiah Feat. Onyx Collective [2020] - Bougie Heart [Entertainment One] (Full Album)

Released 31 Aug 2020 from album AUNTIE.

There a couple of other decent tracks on the album, I particularly like the lead track 'N.U.T.S.' and 'Can't Call It'.

Vince Broomfield [2020] - I'm So Into You [Vince Broomfield]

An artist plucked out of obscurity by Soul Junction (owned by the late John Anderson (Soul Bowl) & Dave Welding) between 2009-13 when they released several previously unissued recordings by Audio (a psedonym he used in 80s/90s), 3 singles and a full album of previously unreleased material.

SJ503 - Kisses Don’t Lie/ I Can’t Take It
SJ515 - Won’t Somebody / The Answer's No
SJ521 - Don't Move A Muscle / Donna Lee
SJLP5004 - New Beginnings

The sleeve notes from the album (taken from Soul Junction website) reads:
Florida based recording artist Vince Broomfield first came to prominence through his 1987 release “Do You Really Want Me” which he recorded for the independent Mote label under the pseudonym of “Audio”. “Do You Really Want Me” went on to become a popular anthem with modern soul and rare groove aficionados alike. On the strength of the Mote 45 the acclaimed “Romantic” album was released in 1991 on John Anderson’s UK based Rare Groove Label. The album contained an extended version of “Do You Really Want Me” plus several other tracks that gained extensive club and radio play at the time.

A further limited edition 45 “Berries On The Vine” was released in 1994.

Vince is a multi-talented musician who also lists keyboards, piano and Saxophone amongst his performing repertoire. He continues to perform to this day as part of his sisters Dee Dee Wilde Band, alongside brothers Al, Benn and Eugene Broomfield. The entire Broomfield family have also been heavily involved with the recent Cool Millions project “Back For More” which features as a solo outing by Vince entitled “Sprinkle” a song he also co-wrote.

In 2009, Soul Junction records released a 45 single on Audio featuring two previously unissued tracks “Kisses Don’t Lie/I Can’t Take It” (SJ503).

A follow up album to the 45 release was always in the offing so finally for your delectation we would like to present you with “New Beginnings” the exciting new album release from Vince Broomfield.

The album contains eight previously unissued tracks, which Vince cut during the period of 1989 to 1995. All the tracks are written and performed by Vince with the exception of “All My Love” which features additional vocals by Rick Washington.

Vince would also like to give credit to his brother Ben for the additional guitar work on “She’s Gone”.

To coincide with the release of his 2013 single he appeared at Prestatyn weekender in March 2013.

His latest offering was Released 15 Feb 2020.

Yu Sakai [2020] - She's Gettin' Married [Caroline (S&D)]

From album Touch The World released 3 Mar 2020, produced by Bluey' (Jean-Paul Maunick) of Incognito.  It's goot that UK Acid Jazz / Jazz Funk feel about it.

Project 1257 Feat. Robert Imtume Owens [2020] - Tailor Made Love [Rcr Recordings]

Released: 20 Mar 2020

I'll let Robert Imtume Owens introduce the track:

Savannah Cristina [2020] - That's Real [Warner]

Best cut from the EP/mini album  'Self Care' released 2 Oct 2020.  The rest of the album is mainly R&B.

That's Real

Self Care

Here's a ''supposedly' live extended version of the title track - where's the crashing waves?

What You Won't Do

This a single she released 28 Jun 2019. It's cover of Bobby Caldwell's What You Won't do For Love which looks like it was filmed at South Beach, Miami.

Kenny Sway Feat. Veronica King [2020] - The Way [CMI MUZIK]

Released 23 March 2020, a nice, mellow and soulful vibe from Kenny Sway featuring Veronica King. I think this may be his debut solo single, although he has been a featured artist on several other tracks.

Tr3y Pullen [2020] - Feels So Good [Ever-Evolving Music Group]

New single released 10 Nov 2020.  I can't find any info on him, not even at the publishers website, so 'assume' this is his debut.

A pleasant stepper.
