Danny Boy [2023] - Crazy [Chicago Creed Music Group]

Staying with the southern soul feel is a single, "Crazy", released on 13 Jan '23 from a forthcoming album, "Black Heart" due on 14 Feb '23 by Danny Boy.

A couple of tracks have already seen the light of day as singles, "This Song" (31 Aug '22) and "Done Me Wrong" (14 Jul '22) (on which he sounds a bit like R. Kelly), so I've also included them below to give you a taste of what's to come. How on earth did we miss "This Song"? It's sublime .. and "Done Me Wrong" is 'none too shabby" either, so the forthcoming album looks promising.

Danny Boy is actually his real name, born Danny Boy Steward, and whilst "Crazy" has  a southern soul feel, Danny is a Chicago, IL, native with strong roots in gospel music. He has been involved in music since he was a young boy. He gained the attention of Dr. Dre when 14 and was signed to Death Row Records joining the ranks of Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Dr. Dre and others releasing his first single for the label in 1994.

Over the years he has developed his skills as a songwriter, producer and actor and has lent his voice to artists such as Teena Marie, Norman Connors and Rick James and featured on recordings by Aaron Hall, Mary J. Blige, K-Ci & Jojo, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur.

Audi Yo [2023] - Baby Love [Yo Turn Music]

Audi Yo (Audrin Windon) is a new name to the blog. He was born in Galveston, TX, although raised in Port Arthur, TX, and has been releasing his own music since 2018. In 2019 he set up his own label, Yo Turn Music Group, on which the majority of his eleven singles and both his albums to date have been released.

His first single of 2023 "Baby Love" was released on 17 Jan '23 and is currently sitting just outside the Amazon UK Top 10.

Danielle Glisper [2023] - God, Love & Healing. Vol. 1 [Music For The Soul Recording] (Full Album)

A debut album "God, Love & Healing. Vol. 1" from Danielle Glisper released on Friday (20 Jan'23).  It's contemporary gospel / neo soul and features her only other two recordings,  both singles from last year, "My Love" (22 Nov) and "Picking Up The Pieces" (2 Sep).

The tail end (in particular) of "Picking Up The Pieces" (which is probably the standout track) contains that recurring riff/sample that you'll immediately recognise. Several of the tracks contain rap. "Healing (The Light)" has sections which remind me of Roy Ayers "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" (when repeats 'my life').

Danielle is from Houston, TX, and according to her facebook profile teaches at Cypress Ridge High School.

Massnada [2023] - Glamour [Le Rouge Records] (Full Album)

Massnada is a new setup  which I am guessing is driven by multi-instrumentalist/composer/producer Giovanni Marinaro from Genova, Italy, as his name appears on all writing credits.

He/they emerged in the last week of Dec 2022 with a debut single "Glamour" (27 Dec) followed by three singles each week in Jan '23 ("Stars", "Remind" and "Faces"). The singles have culminated in the release of this debut album "Glamour" today (24 Jan '23) which includes them all along with four new songs.

A few tracks stand out, "Remind" (which was sent to Steve Aggasild to play in his show last week, but didn't get around to posting it) along with two that haven't appeared as singles (yet)  "Whatcha Doin' To Me?" and "Won't Let You Down" in particular.

Massnada is also a member of Geneva based band Black Café so it's not too surprising to see them feature on three of the tracks. Other guests include Pilar, f o l l o w t h e r i v e r (aka Filippo Ghiglione), Matiroc and Enrica Capilli.

It's worth noting that the album price is only £4.72

Richard Searling [2022-12-11] - Crossover Hot 100 Pt. 2 (83-70) [Solar Radio]

The second instalment of a seven part series showcasing the Crossover Hot 100 broadcast by Richard Searling on Solar Radio on 11 Dec 2022 running down from #83 to #70.

If you don't know what is meant by crossover an explanation of the term was included in Part 1. I've  managed to dig out the article which appeared in issue #17 of Voices From The Shadows which is not dated but believe it was issued 1990/91. Click on image below to enlarge to read the editor Rod Dearlove's definition. The article spanned seven pages and highlighted many examples of the genre.
