We believe that Fel Davis is former lead singer for Public Announcement,  Feloney Davis from Chicago, who we posted a single from ("We Love Summer") two years ago in Jul '21 using a different spelling (Felony Davis).

He's released two singles this year with the latest "Gonna Be (Revised)" feat Sylvester Earl Powell on Friday (21 Jul).

Clifton Dyson [2023] - Cupid Shot An Arrow b/w Eye To Eye Contact [Numero Group #NUM2533]

A digital reissue of quite an obscure 1996 recording by Clifton Dyson on Grand Tereze Records. It was released as a Grand Tereze 12" and also appeared on a 1998 album  "'The Sound Of Clifton Dyson'  Mesmerized" on Two Halves Records (vinyl, CD and cassette).

The lead side, "Cupid Shot An Arrow", is a falsetto led sweet soul ballad with "Eye To Eye Contact" being more of a rap driven new jack swing style sound.

VA [2023] - East Side Story: Lowrider Oldies, Vol. 1 [Jaipur Music] (Full Album)

A compilation of eight lowriders titled "East Side Story: Lowrider Oldies, Vol. 1" was released by Jaipur Music on 30 Jun.

It promises a lot with the opening track by Florida Spiritualaires "I Remember When" released on Ernie's Record Parade in 1976 (which borrows from The Intruders' "Cowboys To Girls" (Gamble 1968)) but we were left a little deflated by many of the inclusions. An opportunity missed.

Another track also borrows heavily from Barrett Strong's "Money" (possibly more famous by The Beatles 1963 cover) by Nat Brown with "I Need Some Lovin'" which seems out of place on this compilation which we'd describe more as predominantly deep soul rather than sweet soul.

Stefunie [2023] - She'll Never Be Me [Self Released]

Stefunie (Luckett) began her career as a background singer. She released her debut album (as Stefunie) "Life Vs Love" on 31 Aug 2021. 

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, raised in Jackson, MS, she previously known as Stephanie Luckett, and maybe still is, as her southern soul alter ego with recordings going back to 2017.

Her new single "She'll Never Be Me" is her second this year  and when we last featured her with "Anymore" in Aug last year we were led to believe that it was from a forthcoming album "Her Language" due on 8 Aug 2022, which hasn't yet materialised.

Club Des Belugas & Lene Riebau [2023] - A Quiet Moment [Glamjazz Records]

One that was missed by many at the beginning of June that is far too good to be ignored from Club Des Belugas & Lene Riebau  and "A Quiet Moment".

They are a European Nu-Jazz originating in Germany in 2002 featuring Danish jazz singer Lene Riebau (who released a solo album 'Jazz Handle' in 2007).

Brenda Boykin, who's NS favourite 'Love Is In Town' was reissued by One World in 2020, is a member of the group.

They last featured here with "Coming A Little Bit Closer" in May '21.

Aston Grey Project feat. Keisha Adams [2023] - Wanna Be Yours [Platinum Vybe Recordings] PROMO

The smooth jazz ensemble Aston Grey Project, renowned for their fusion of smooth jazz, R&B, and contemporary vibes, return with their latest single, "Wanna Be Yours".

It showcases the band's signature seductive and melodic groove blending Aston Grey Project's instrumental style while introducing the world to the soulful vocals of Keisha Adams. It has hints of Rose Royce's "Ooh Boy" (1977).

We discovered that Keisha has recorded the song previously as it was included on a compilation "The Platinum Vybe Years 1995-2000 (The Lost Masters)" in 2016.

The man behind The Ashton Grey Project is Soul Cafe Radio's Chris Clay who is also the president of Platinum Vybe Recordings and a member of the group.

The single is set for release on Friday (28 July)

D'MAR [2023] - Me & You [Self Released] (Full Album)

San Francisco's Derrick 'D'MAR' Martins released his sixth album "Me & You" on Friday. 

It includes his last four singles "My Everything" (Jun '23), "Insane" (May '23), "Got 2 Love" (Apr '23) and "Without U" (Mar '23).

D'MAR is a veteran musician, producer, songwriter, singer who was the lead drummer for the Little Richard for 17 years and has also worked with many other well known artists including Dorothy Moore, Bobby Rush, Ali Woodson (The Temptations), Carla Thomas, Billy Preston and Syl Johnson.

He released his first solo album "The D'MAR Xperience" in 2005.
