The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2022... Part 28 (Jul 2022 Wk 28) Spotify Playlist

SoulStrutter selections of the best releases this week
(Jul 2022 Wk 28)
In no particular order other than tempo.

It's a bit of a mixed bag this week (Hobson's choice as there was very little good quality music released this week) kicking off with a couple of soulful R&B tunes and ending with a couple of Nu Disco.

I think my choice cuts from this week's selections would probably be a toss up between Swatkins & Raquel Rodriguez "Lottery" and Saint Jaimz "One 4 Me".

The real surprise this week was a new album from 80s veteran Yvonne Gage "Feel Love" which came out of the blue and it's a solid set of soulful jazz songs with a couple of covers. Taking all things into consideration Yvonne Gage's new album is this week's SoulStrutter Selection of the Week for consistency.

I must give an honorary mention to the della kit debut album "moonbeams & frequencies" released last Friday (8 Jul) which missed out as I was perhaps a bit blinded to it by last week's selection of Jamison Ross.

A round dozen this week. There were a couple of pretty good neo soul EPs from Jaszy Shavers & Tavaras Jordan "California Soul" and a debut from Strawberry "Just Believe" and a pair of tracks from each are included. A track that I think will fly is "Crazy 4 U"  from London singer Charlene.

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2022... Covers, Reissues, Remixes & Samples Part 17 (Jul 2022 Wk 28)

SoulStrutter selections for Jul 2022 Wk 28 of the best non-original songs i.e. cover versions, remixes, reissues, previously unreleased and new songs using samples or new releases with a retro feel. (In no particular order).

I thought I was going to struggle to get a dozen this week but in the eventuality it was saved by the release of a new Sunny & The Sunliners compilation on Friday, from which five tracks have been selected, boosting the dozen to fourteen as there were some that just couldn't be omitted.

Covers: Omar Wilson (Teddy Pendergrass), Tamara McClain (Gap Band)

Sunny & The Sunliners [2022] - Mr. Brown Eyed Soul Vol. 2 [Big Crown Records #BC135-LP] (Full Album)

Big Crown Records pursued Sunny Ozuna for years to try to get him to agree to them releasing his music. Finally, in 2015, they were successful and two years later in 2017 a compilation of seventeen tracks "Mr. Brown Eyed Soul"  was released.

They have subsequently also reissued three of his albums and five singles. Fast forward to 2022 and the second volume of fourteen tracks "Mr. Brown Eyed Soul Vol. 2"  has been compiled by the label.

Ildefonso 'Sunny' Ozuna is from San Antonio, TX, and has been performing and recording since the 50s. He formed Sunny & The Sunglows in 1959 who released their first recording in 1960 changing their name to Sunny & The Sunliners around 1964. He is still performing today aged 79.

As well as original material, the compilation included several covers such as Billy Stewart's "Sitting In The Park, Eddie Floyd's "I've Never Found A Girl", Seven Souls "I'm No Stranger"  and The Intruders', Gamble & Huff penned, "Together" which are possibly the best tracks along with originals "Runaway" and "Should I Take You Home".
