I'm going to try and keep on top of things this year and summarise, at the end of each month and quarter, with the weekly SoulStrutter Selections and The Dirty Dozens. The aim is to highlight some of the best music for the month as some good tracks from early in the month often get buried and forgotten so it's a reminder of what's already been highlighted during the month.

Global Soul Chart 29th Jan 2022

The first Global Soul chart of 2022 is a Top 10 only as there was insufficient data from over the festive period for a Top 20 so the first Top 20 of the year will feature on Saturday (5 Feb 2022) at 5pm (GMT) on Global Soul Radio.

They are all essentially new entries as the last chart was compiled in mid December, so not really much to report or comment on except that it's good to see The Temptations single appearing in what is more of a contemporary chart, as quality is quality whatever the era.

I've decided that this year again to start posting the UK Soul Charts. Not only the one published by Starpoint Radio but also Global Soul Radio as I believe they are diverse enough with the former being more commercial and the latter covering more contemporary neo/future soul releases. I think there is a place for both. 

It is worth highlighting that, whilst the UK Soul Chart may have had some 'bad press' (rightly or wrongly) in the past, I've had a discussion with it's creator who has been referencing Digital Tracking (DTR)  software for the last few months to verify it's accuracy and informs me that it has had positive results and will be using it moving forward in addition to using radio show playlists & Stations Data as more artists start to use the (DRT) facility. It is also worth bearing in mind that the Starpoint chart is always one week behind as there is a delay in collating the 100+ playlists that the chart is based upon.

The Global Soul chart is 'arguably' more upfront and data is collated from three weeks of radio show playlists along with the Amazon Hot (100) New Releases with the latest week's playlists being given more emphasis.

It will be interesting to see how things develop but I have no doubt that some tunes will in appear in one chart and not the other on a regular basis, as is the nature of the beast, but that's perhaps a good thing, hence the reason for posting both. I don't believe that the charts should be compared as one being more accurate than the other as each is coming at it from a different perspective.

I think it should be fairly obvious, but colour coding is riser = green, faller = red and no change = orange and new entry or re-entry = white/no colour.

Where chart entries have been posted on the blog, which generally they will have been, there will be a link to the post.

This week's chart has five new entries and three re-entries. The highest new entry is from David Morales entering straight in at #2.

Tony Walk [2022] - Stay [Self Released]

Tony Walk (Anthony Walker) first featured on the blog last August with his single "The One For You". He has a new single titled "Stay" due for release in 11 Feb 2020 which is taken from his upcoming second album "Good Vibes Only". 

I believe Tony has been a session singer for many years supporting artists such as Aretha Franklin, Billy Preston, En Vogue, Celine Dion, Little Richard, Andrae Crouch, Etta James, Miki Howard, and Vesta Williams . His debut album "Introducing Tony Walk" was released in 2020 and consisted of mainly covers, several materialising as singles.
