Lakei Daze [2021] Remain [Self Released] (Full Album)

A new 7 track album/EP from an artist named Lakei Daze called 'Remain' has just been self-released on 5 Feb 2021.  Whilst it's predominantly R&B oriented, there are a couple of nice mellow and soulful tracks 'Masterpiece' and 'Robbery'.

I think she's a relatively new artist as I can only find one previously released single, 'Maybe I Do' (which is included on the album) from last April (2020).

Sanmi Akinlabi Feat. Lois Kirby [2021] - Family [Horus]

Another quality track from Sanmi Akinlabi's debut album 'Dance Again'. This track features Lois Kirby. The album was released 27 Nov 2020 but this track premiered on YT on 31 Jan 2021, so I assume that this will be the new single.

Akin Soul [2021] - Burning Fire [Self Released]

Here's something different from 19 year old London based jazz & soul singer Akin Soul.

He founded 12 piece band Akin Soul & The Soul Tribe in south east London in 2018 and they have performed across London. Akin is a multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, keyboards and trombone and is a singer/songwriter who is currently studying jazz at Trinity Laban Conservetoire in SE London.

He states his influences as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Lalah & Donny Hathaway, Kim Burrell, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Winehouse and Corinne Bailey Rae. You can certainly hear the Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder influences on this track.

I've included an earlier track he released in May 2020 below.  He certainly has his own unique sound, which is refreshing from a lot of the cloned music being released.

Chris Jasper [2021] - The Way You Love Me [Gold City]

A love ballad released in time for Valentine's Day from Chris Jasper's 17th solo album. He was, of course, a member of Isley, Jasper, Isley in the 80s who are best remembered for 'Caravan Of Love' which reached #52 on UK pop chart in 1985. It was covered the following year by The Housemartins who had a #1 hit with a 'blanded out', soulless, acapella version of it. Unbelievable, but at least Jasper & the Isley's were writers of the song, so would have  received royalties for it.

The Housemartins were from Hull and included Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim who sampled the NS classic instrumental by the Just Brothers 'Sliced Tomatoes' for his first big hit 'The Rockafella Skank' in 1998. The Housemartins later broke up and two members formed The Beautiful South.

Otis Kane [2021] - Growing Pains [Self Released]

The title track of a 5 track EP from Otis Kane released on 5 Feb 2021.  It has a sort of neo southern soul feel about it. The rest of the EP is 'standard' R&B.

Jahah [2004] - Oooh [BeeZee70]

An independent release from 2004 by Jahah. From what I can discover he's released around 5 albums since 2001.  This track is from his 2004 album 'MamasOnlySon'.  I've also included a couple of tracks from his 2013 album 'Nostalgia Black', having already posted 'Soul Music' from it a few days ago.

Sherree Brown [2008] - Adore You [NSB]

The 'other' Sherree Brown from Chicago with a great track from her gospel album 'First Fruit' released in 2008.

She was previously known as Sherree Ford-Payne who released a self-titled album in 1996, from which two singles were released 'Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda' and ' Love Him Anyway'.

Dreemtime [2013] - See The Light [Puffin Sounds Nyc]

Great soul/jazz tune from Dreemtime released on their 2013 album 'Manhattan'. For some reason it reminds me of Gil Scott-Heron's classic 'The Bottle' not just from the lyrical content but also the rhythm.

Brooklyn Funk Essentials Feat. Alison Limerick [2019] - Where Love Lives [Dorado]

London based Alison Limerick had a UK Top 10 hit (#9) with this, her debut, song in 1990 which has become a club anthem. She re-recorded an updated version of it with Brooklyn Funk Essentials in 2018 and it was also on their 'Stay Good' album released in Sep. 2019.

Original 1990 version

Johnny Gill [2014] - Game Changer [J Skillz #1790021638]

The title track from Johnny Gill's 2014 album 'Game Changer'. It was released as a single but for some bizarre reason failed to chart anywhere.  I believe J Skillz was his own label so perhaps there were insufficient funds to promote it?
