Raja-Nee' [2022] - The Sovereign of 14742 [JARF Music Group] Teaser

Following the release of a double single "Take My Breath" / "Breathe" on 11 Aug 2022 (and a video for the A side posted yesterday), Raja-Nee' announces the release of her new album  "The Sovereign of 14742" on 28 Aug 2022 available on CD only.

10th Street [2022] - 10th Street [Mighty Eye Records] (Full Album)

Something a little different, an album of mainly 70s style Blaxploitation instrumentals from 10th Street with a self-titled album released today (23 Aug 2022).

The album was recorded at Soul Fire Studios, Brooklyn, NYC, over the course of two years with the contribution of over two dozen of the best NYC musicians and features members of El Michels Affair, Lee Fields & The Expressions, The Dap- Kings, Antibalas and more.

They say it's "a nod to late 70’s disco, funk and boogie is sure to be a future classic!"

All songs are credited to Jeff Silverman, Leon Michels and Michael Leonhart. I don't think they are a band as such, more a studio project.

Produced and engineered by Jeff ‘Dynamite’ Silverman (Soul Fire Records, Truth & Soul Records, Aloe Blacc), assistant engineered by Lucas Goodman (Lion Babe), mixed by Chris Connors (Liam Bailey, Holy Hive) and mastered by Ryan Schwabe.

Michael Leonhart (horn arrangements), Leon Michels (string arrangements) with Terri Walker (Lady) and Camille Sledge (Sister Sledge, Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra) on vocals.

The album was pre-released on Bandcamp on 12 Aug where it is also available on vinyl. It's their debut album so other bands with the same name are not the same group.

Global Soul Showcase [2022-07-03] - Jazz Cafe, London 19:00 18th July 2022 / The Blues Kitchen Manchester 19:00 19 Sep 2022

The next Global:Soul showcase will take place at the Jazz Cafe, Camden, London, NW1 7PG on Sunday 18th Sep 2022 and then the following evening at The Blues Kitchen, Manchester, M3 3HN on Monday 19th Sep 2022.

Confirmed artists appearing will be Tasha Angela, Latanya Alberto, Etta Bond and Tilly Valentine., DRCY will be appearing in London only and July 7 in Manchester only with at least one more act to be confirmed for each bill.

The showcase will once again be hosted by BBC Radio 1 DJ Victoria Jane with JM Soul, Franklin Sinclair and Chaise spinning the tunes.

Etta Bond is known and loved for her soulful British vocal and straight-talking attitude. Her songwriting finesse, coupled with her powerful delivery is teeming with vulnerability and honesty that will warm even the coldest heart. Championed by The Guardian as a ‘skinhead soul princess’, she has been named one of their Future 50 rising stars to watch, as well as being tipped by The Fader in their list of 10 UK R&B Artists ‘You Need To Know About’. Etta can already boast an impressive list of collaborations that include SiR, Wretch 32, Labrinth, Avelino, Tom Misch, Kojey Radical and more. With further plaudits coming from Annie Mac, Julie Adenuga, Jamz Supernova, MistaJam, and DJ Target.

Latanya Alberto Amsterdam based Singer/Songwriter she has released three EPs to much critical acclaim. Championed by the popular Colors platform one of the few to be fortunate enough to be selected to perform TWICE! She has also enjoyed support from ID, Clash magazine, Fred Perry and Okayplayer. A regular performer with the Metropole Orchestra she is an accomplished live performer. This is her her UK debut.

Tasha Angela (Toronto) Hot new artist recently signed to Varick St (Def Jam) in the states. Global Soul is delighted to be hosting her official UK launch and debut with her new single released in August. An exciting new talent.

Tilly Valentine After a run of successful releases, she has been described as the ‘Revolution Of Music..’ she has enjoyed support from Global Soul, BBC (Radio 1, 1Xtra, 6 Music & Introducing Mixtape), The Hot List and Jazz FM. She has been selected by Spotify to feature on their infamous New release playlist and was hand-picked by Grammy nominated producer, Jake Gosling, to have her music highlighted globally. She has collaborated with renowned producer EDBL for whom she has been performing at Festivals this summer and has already had her own headline show at Ronnie Scotts.

July 7 A bedroom producer from Manchester who has worked with T.I., Travis Scott and Young Thug! The whirlwind success of July 7’s story is grounded in hard graft. The special guest will be Roger 'Soulsorts' Williams who unfortunately wasn't able to make the 5th Anniversary in May that he was scheduled to do owing to family commitments.

He joins residents Michael Gudge, Nick 'Topsey' Turvey, Mark Blee, Eddie Hubbard and Paul Garland spinning the best in soul music across the decades.

Lou Ragland & The Great Lakes Orchestra [2022] - Lou Ragland & The Great Lakes Orchestra [Numero Group] (Full Album)

Only a few weeks ago Numero Group released "Trouble" by Lou Ragland & The Great Lakes Orchestra and today (22 Aug 2022) appear to have digitally released the full self-titled album it was taken from which was originally released on vinyl by P-Vine in 2016.

Whilst it wasn't released until 2016 the album sessions were recorded in Las Vegas between Sep 1982 and Jul 1983. Prior to 2016 only two tracks had seen the light of day on a 1982 Great Lakes Orchestra single, "This Is The Night For Loving" / "Didn't I Tell You", an in-demand double-sider on the UK modern soul scene.

Paige Alyssa & The Max [2022] - LIQUOR (Single) [Gluten Free Daddy Records]

Paige Alyssa Hegwood is from St. Louis, MO, and has been recording music since around 2014 with around six EP/albums and seven singles under their belt.

The latest single/EP consists essentially of two songs "LIQUOR" and "PARTIKULAR GIRL" with instrumental and acapella versions of both extending it to six tracks.

Paige has teamed up with The Max for the latest release featuring Josie on vocals for "LIQUOR" and Lukie on "PARTIKULAR GIRL"

edbl, James Berkeley, Miller Blue, Yakul [2022] - Just The Same [edbl recordings]

The first track pre-released from a forthcoming album "edbl & Friends - James Berkeley" is "Just The Same" featuring James Berkeley, Miller Blue and Yakul.

The album is scheduled for 10 Oct 2022 consisting of seven tracks with all other tracks by edbl (pronounced ed-bluh, aka London based singer/songwriter, guitarits, producer Ed Black from Chester), James Berkeley (whom I can find nothing about as this is only his second recording) and Yakul (a four piece group from Brighton).

A distinctly UK blue-eyed neo soul affair.

This appears to be a debut EP from KEDA who has only released one previous single which is the opening track "WYD" in Jan 2020. 

All of the songs on the six track EP "Don't Press Send..." are explicit and written by producer Floyd Timeless Thomas. It is very much an R&B flavoured EP.

Beth [2022] - Let Me Be [Anise Records # AR 400]

As alluded to yesterday on the post of her 2017 album "Free", Beth (Griffith-Manley) has a new album "Get To Know Me" due on 30 Sep 2022. The lead single is "Let Me Be" pre-released to promote the album.

The intro may seem familiar as it starts off similar to S.O.S. Band's "Tell Me If You Still Care" from 1983.

Apart from her previous album posted yesterday, Beth last featured here on 1 Apr with a promo of a track on which she featured on Blair Bryant's "Red Tiger" album (15 Apr) which was a cover of Sade's "Kiss Of Life".

Beth is the daughter of legendary, classically trained, pianist/keyboardist Motown Funk Brother Johnny Griffith.

She was cast in the 2011 remake of the movie "Sparkle" as the stand-in and body-double for Whitney Houston, during filming in Detroit in 2011.

For the last decade Beth has provided background vocals for 3 time Grammy winning Motown artist Kem and has been touring with him on his recent "The Full Circle" tour promoting his latest EP as well as touring recently with The O'Jays and Najee. Beth was also a backing singer for 8 time Grammy winner Anita Baker for five years. Other artists she has sung with include Dave Mason, Ali 'Ollie" Woodson (Temptations), Yolanda Adams.

In 2019 she appeared in season 16 of The Voice coached by John Legend.
