Full list of dates and venues HERE. If you've not had the opportunity of witnessing Jarrod live then get your tickets now, you will not be disappointed!

Richard Marzetti caught up with Jarrod last Friday on his Solar Radio show. The interview was in the middle of a three hour show so we asked Richard if he would provide an edit and he has graciously obliged so that we can share it with you. Many thanks to Richard.

IshMaleSings [2023] - What Can We Do? (Jazz Mix & Clean, No Rap Edit) / Gimme Some R&B (Jazz Mix) [Self Released]

The killer cut from IshMaleSings "A Heart's Journey" album from last year was "What Can We Do?" which featured H20-Flow on rap.

Due out imminently is a new mix, "What Can We Do? (Jazz Mix)", (as well as the 'Clean, No Rap' version) along with a Jazz Mix of another album track "Gimme Some R&B". All three mixes are available directly from IshMaleSings' website at $0.99 each.

IshMaleSings is Sammie Lee Muhammad originally from Shreveport. LA, who now resides in Dallas, TX. He debuted some years ago and has performed live in Las Vegas, but alas chart and radio success has thus far eluded him.

He's made some noise with previous recordings in the UK with his self-written old school style songs such as "Gimme Some R&B" which now has a new  mix.

Shantae Townsel [2023] - Stop Don't Touch Me There [Uniglobal Records]

What's going on here? A southern soul groove coming out of the Motor City more famed for the four on the floor Motown beat or more recently Techno.

Detroit's Shantae Townsel exercises her vocal chords on a song called "Stop Don't Touch Me There" produced by Felton Pilate (of Con Funk Shun fame) and written by Jay Blakey, McKinley Jackson (who was a member of the Hot Wax/Invictus house band The Politicians), and Melvin Steals. Steals, aka Lyric, is one half of song-writing team Mystic & Lyric with his brother Mervin who were behind so many hit songs, especially for The Spinners, such as "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love".

Ernest Mosley [2023] - Stubborn Heart / Keep On Loving Me [Numero Group #NUM5852]

The first of only two singles released by Ernest Mosely. Both sides were reissued on Fryers in 2014. The in-demand Northern Soul classic "Stubborn Heart" was reissued by Goldmine Soul Supply around 1998 (mistitled as Earnest Moley) paired with The Shepperds "How Do You Like It" which was released as the flip to their version of "Stubborn Heart" on Mirwood in 1967. Mosley's version is punchier than The Sheppards.

The original on La Cindy from 1967 is now approaching the four figure mark for an issue and double that for a promo. Only five singles are listed for the label owned by Leo Austell (who managed Betty Everett) and Hillery Johnson who jointly also formed several other Chicago labels such as Twin Stacks, Brainstorm, Renee.

I can't find any information on Ernest Mosely which is not really surprising as he only released two singles.

Note that on Spotify it has also been filed under Earnest (not Ernest) Mosley even though it is Ernest on the label.

Johnson, Hawkins, Tatum & Durr [2023] - You Can't Blame Me / Your Love Keeps Drawing Me Closer [Numero Group #NUM5884]

The first of only two releases by Johnson, Hawkins, Tatum & Durr, both on Bill Moss' Columbus, OH, based Capsoul (Capitol City Soul) label in the early 70s.

Moss was a local singer and DJ on Columbus station WNKO. The label released a dozen singles between 1970-74, four of them by Four Mints (we posted the reissue of their solitary 1973 album "Gently Down Your Stream" last Sep) and two by Johnson, Hawkins, Tatum & Durr made up half of the label's output with two singles from Kool Blues and the remaining four by Marion Black, The Capitol Group, Elijah & The Ebonies and the last releases by Moss himself in 1974.

Prompted by a friend, Moss auditioned Johnson, Hawkins, Tatum & Durr who signed and renamed them mistakenly (as Al Dawson was named Hawkins on the label). The group consisted of Virgil Johnson, Al Dawson, Willie Tatum and Norris Durr who were a group of neighbourhood friends originally named the Revelations and released "You Can't Blame Me" /  "Your Love Keeps Drawing Me Closer" as their first single in March 1971.

The record apparently got airplay and sold well in local markets throughout the Midwest and east coast but failed to make an impact in major cities like Chicago and New York and sank only to later be embraced by the UK rare soul scene and prices have begun to climb.

After their second single "You’re All I Need to Make It" / "A World Without You" the following year, Johnson (not to be confused with Virgil Johnson of The Velvets) decided to take his chances as a solo singer and left for L.A. but doesn't appear to have had much success and returned to Ohio having not recorded anything.

The B side was co-written by Jeff Smith (and Forrest F. Whittaker) who recorded it a few years earlier in 1969 as a member of The Chandlers as a one-off single on his own label Bleu Rose titled "(Never Before) Your Love Keeps Drawing Me Closer". Earlier in 1967 the group recorded "Your Love Makes Me Lonely" another one-off single on a Smith owned label Col Soul which has become a 'trophy' record on the UK rare soul scene now commanding four figures, possibly also due to demand for the sweet soul A side "I Need Your Love".

Numero Group reissued most of the label's output on their first compilation "Eccentric Soul: The Capsoul Label" in 2004 which includes all four sides for the label by Johnson, Hawkins, Tatum & Durr.

These two sides have been reissued digitally today (6 Mar '23).
