The final part of our four part series highlighting our selection of 100 of the best Neo Soul releases of 2023. 

They are in no particular order of merit, simply chronological as they were released. This set of selections were released between mid May and the end of Jun. We've included some additional tracks that were released last week so this playlist includes 30 rather than 25 tracks.

Jalen Ngonda [2023] - Come Around and Love Me [Daptone Records #DAP-076] (Album Samples)

On 29 Jul Jalen Ngondo released the fourth single, and title track, from his debut album  "Come Around and Love Me". The album is due for release on 9 Sep and is available now to pre-order from Colemine Records or from reputable vinyl dealers.

Jalen Ngonda grew up on the outskirts of Washington D.C. (Wheaton, MD) and began musical studies in grade school, where he dabbled in violin, ultimately moving on to the guitar and piano. He is from a musical family and gained inspiration from listening to his father’s collection of Motown albums.

He, like so many before him, cut his teeth in the church where he played organ which helped him raise funds to send him to the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts in 2014, He currently resides in London.

He was spotted by Daptone co-founder Neal Sugarman whilst performing a chance, last minute, slot for Jools Holland and he was duly signed and an album was planned but unfortunately it occurred the month before Covid-19 lock down.

IYAMAH & Kofi Stone [2023] - Green Grass [Self Released]

It is just over two years since IYAMAH featured here with her last album "Tough Love" in May '21. It was her third album in as many years ("The Truth EP. 2" (Oct '20) and "The Truth EP. 2" (Mar '19)). 

Since then she has released just one 5 track EP "Sometimes, I'm Speechless" in Dec '22. That is until now as she released a single "Green Grass" with Kofi Stone on Friday (30 Jun).

She released her first single 'Cryptic Love' in 2018 and describes her music as 'rootsy soul'.

Eva Essa (Eva Ahlstedt) is a new singer, songwriter, producer from Stockholm who emerged in Mar with her first release "Turned Your Back" and followed iT in May with "Issues" and today has released her third single "Closer".

Gary Beals [2023] - All Of Me [LRK Records]

We are beginning to sound like the LRK Records fan club but credit where it is due as they are going where other vinyl labels fear to tread and are creating a niche for themselves releasing more contemporary soul music digitally and on vinyl.

They have a new signing who is yet another Canadian singer (following Claire Davis and Aphrose) Gary Beals whose last single "Good People, Good Vibes" we posted last month. 

His next single will be "All Of Me" which is being released by LRK Records on 14 Jul.

We don't have sound files or samples to share with you yet but will in due course.
