Anthony Young [2014] - I Won't Hurt You (REMIXX - JMAY)

Continuing the JmAY / Smokie Norful 'saga', I went searching to try and find out who JmAY is and came across a slower/deeper remix, which I think is from around 2014. It doesn't appear to have been released as I can't find it on any of the normal outlets. However it is posted on Reverbnation, which fortunately allows embedding so here it is.

I suspect that JmAY is actually a duo as there are two males on the cover and I believe now that the AY is one Anthony Antonio Young who is from Lathrop, CA (bay area).

So who is Jm? ... well the writing credits on Smokie Norful are Derek Allen (who also produced it), Smokie Norful and Jimi Morris .. so is it a coincidence that these as the same initials?  Further investigation shows that there is a Jimi Morris who has released two singles in 2019 ('Jimi's Blues') and 2020 ('Leave Me Lonely') published by Rhythm Section Ent (based in L.A.) which seems to be owned by his nephew Big Mike who he has recorded with, so it could well be him?

Anthony Young's profile on Reverbnation reads:

"Anthony Antonio Young is an innovative song writer recording artist and vocal producer & band leader, who is driven by an incredible passion for self-expression through his art. his work is often noted for it's unique style, elegance, and technique. Anthony has developed an exspansive style that blends precise with old school and the new expression of music.
My band consist of some of the baddest musicians in the bay area."

"AY & THE M.O.S BAND Originates from the bay area. This diverse high performance 5 piece group Fast paced, energetic - this group Captivates its audiences with exquisite showmanship of the top R&B hits. if you should happen to ask anyone in the audience to describe this group ,you will hear sensational , polished appearance, personal and dynamic. The very talented lead vocalist & band leader Anthony 'Antonio' Young mesmerizes his cheering fans as he utilizes the microphone as a magical wand and working the crowd into an exhilarating frenzy."

There's some of his other music on YouTube (but not this track)

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Part 12 (Apr 2021 Wk 16) Spotify Playlist

My selection of the best releases this week (Apr 2021 Wk 16).

There has been some great music released this week so, unfortunately, many good tracks didn't make the cut that would have done in other weeks. I did consider extending the list but decided against it to stay consistent.

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Covers, Reissues, Remixes & Samples Part 7 (Apr 2021 Wk 16)

My selection of this week's best cover versions, remixes, reissues, previously unreleased and new songs using samples (Apr 2021 Wk 16). (In no particular order)

I've extended the criteria a bit this week as I couldn't find exactly 12 tracks meeting the criteria so have included a great track from Diquan Julis released in Feb and two tracks from Ane' which I reckon were recorded before 2021 (so technically reissues and 'Anytime, Anyplace' is a cover of Janet Jackson, in any case, and 'Learning To Love Myself' was released in 2012). Also, Lexi and Smokie Norful tracks haven't been released yet but when they eventually are they are reissues. Finally, I've included the new release from Mark Knight & Beverly Knight to make up the dozen.

Podcast - Franklin Sinclair - The New Music Hour - 23rd April 2021

Franklin started DJ'ing in 1975 and graduated to night clubs in the North West in the 80's. He began his radio career in 2010 when he was invited to do a (mainly) chat show on South Manchester Community Radio then called Peace FM and now called Legacy. From there he did some shows on Internet Radio before joining Starpoint where he compiled the UK Soul Chart. He then left to do a Saturday show on Mi-Soul radio and was involved in setting up Mi-Soul Connoisseurs and the Soul Connoisseurs Chart which has now become Global Soul.
In this show he features many spectrums of soul but especially focuses on the edgy, vibey future soul beats.
Franklin hosts The New Music Show on Friday evenings between 5pm-6pm on Global Soul where he features the hot new releases and also hosts the Global Chart Show on Saturdays. A new theme he has incorporated is playing five new releases which he calls the 'Essential 5' before the chart rundown which consists of five hot new tracks released within the last five days.

He is a regular reader of the blog and featured at least six tracks which have been posted on the blog in the few days before the show was broadcast and his show also highlights many tracks which I later post on the blog which I have missed (two of which posted today), so we have a good reciprocal relationship which hopefully highlights new releases you may otherwise not have known about.

Jonas Winge Leisner [2021] - Sticky [Self Released] (Full EP)

More Scandinavian blue-eyed soul (I featured Norwegian group White Ascot earlier), this time from Jonas Winge Leisner from Denmark (Copenhagen). The only other releases I can find are from him are from 1999, with another Danish singer Szhirley, from the soundtrack of the movie 'The Only One' in which he later starred in the stage musical version of in 2005.

He released a six track EP 'Sticky' on 23 Apr 2021, and the standout track is 'Wrapped in Your Love'.

'Fuel' and title track 'Sticky' are quite funky, whilst 'Hustler' has a bit of a Blaxploitation' groove about it with a feel of Marvin Gaye's 'Trouble Man' / 'Inner City Blues'. 'Another World Is Calling' is probably the most contemporary with a funky R&B vibe, whilst the final track 'Lovebirds' is a semi-acoustic mid-tempo tune.
