Jalen Ngonda [2024] - Illusions [Daptone Records] PROMO

Last Tuesday (13 Feb) Jalen Ngonda performed three songs live at Maida Vale studios which were broadcast on BBC Radio 2 Piano Sessions. We posted a BBC iPlayer link to the show and a video of the forthcoming single "Illusions".

The single is due for release on Friday (23 Feb) which we can share with you prior to release.
UPDATE: It has been released a day early and is on digital platforms today (22 Feb).

Jalen has spent the last few months non-stop touring in support of his critically acclaimed debut album "Come Around and Love Me" which continues in March and April throughout Europe culminating in Birmingham on 27 Apr. (click on tour dates image below for full itinerary).

The song was written by Jalen with Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito and is not included on his debut album.

We are told that "Illusions follows the story of a man who is madly in love with someone and often thinks of the life they have together. As he awakes up one morning, he realises his infatuations have led him to become delusional from reality, given the fact the the love interest knows nothing of his existence".

We're also told that it's inspired lyrically by works of Rod Sterling and the many themes of Twilight Zone and musically by the Motown sound, notably Smokey Robinson & The Miracles and Martha & The Vandellas.

Toucan [2024] - Don't Understand Why [Self Released]

TOUCAN is the artist name for Conor Clancy from Tramore, Ireland. He debuted in March 2018 with "We Fell For Miles" which was then included on a four track, self-titled, EP the following August. A further EP was delivered in 2019. His next two singles in 2020 were covers of "Lovely Day" and Dancing In The Moonlight".

His latest single is "Don't Understand Why", a wonderfully smooth, retro, blue-eyed soul vibe that reminds us a tad of "Crystal Blue Persuasion", with the lush harmonies, a real ear worm with a comical music video to boot!

Jeff Darko [2024] - Feel Alright (Quiet Storm Remix) [Self Released]

You may recall a few weeks ago we posted a promo from British-Ghanaian neo-soul singer/songwriter Jeff Darko for "Feel Alright" (Quiet Storm Remix). It's officially released today (21 Feb).

He released the original version in April '23 but this new Quiet Storm Remix is a much smoother and more laid back and soulful mix which we actually prefer to the original.

Darko describes his music as Psychedelic Gospel and made his recording debut in Apr '21. He has now followed it with a further five singles and a five track EP consisting of his first three singles and two remixes of the third titled "Strange Dreams".  He grew up in an African Christian home, on a diet of Gospel music and Soul from where his musical identity is rooted.

The third release in just over a week from Latasha Lee. The first was a compilation of songs from the last ten years, "Compositions of LaTasha Lee & Salih Williams", the second a reissue of her debut album "Latasha Lee & The Black Ties" and today a new single "I Dont Wanna Cry".

It's a cover of a song written and recorded by The After Hours on Condor in 1971 which appears to be their only recording.
