The Auratones [2022] - Bada Bing [STM Records] (Full Album)

Dutch band, The Auratones, combine the best of jazz, funk and soul. They've been together since the 90s releasing their first, of around six, albums in 1997

Their latest album "Badu Bing" was released today and from the opening note of the first track you just know that these guys can play. The trumpet of Cees Trappenburg dominates the first jazz-funk track "Peach Fuzz". 

Whilst the album is instrumental, smooth jazz it most definitely is NOT, it's tight, jazzy and funky and thoroughly enjoyable throughout for lovers of 'real' music and not one for the fad followers as this music is timeless.

Their current line-up is Boudewijn Lucas (bass), Lean Robbemont (drums), Tjeerd van Zanen (guitar), Johan Hendrikse (keys), Rolf Delfos (alto sax), Bariton & Flute Peter Broekhuizen (bariton & flute) and  Cees Trappenburg (trumpet).

They have played many jazz festivals and have inevitably worked with Dutch saxophonist Candy Dulfer.

Brian Power Feat. Roachford [2022] - Got Sweet Loving [SoulHouseMusic]

A new single by Brian Power which features Andrew Roachford MBE who's had eleven UK pop chart top 50 hits between 1989 and 1998 with his group Roachford. 

Released on Friday (2 Sep 2022), "Got Sweet Loving" comes with two mixes the, by now standard, soulful house original mix and, I think my preferred mix, the "Raw Soul Mix" as a lot of this soulful house tends to sound the same! These are the short versions, for the longer versions you'll need to get them from Traxsource.

Those guys from Reel People, Mike Patto and Tony Economides, are involved again in writing and producing.

I don't think that this week's selections are quite as strong as last week's but the one doing it for me is Ria Barkr and I'm also digging the double Dutchmen Maydien & Mitchell Yard which has been out for three weeks and Birmingham's YodaGee & Casssaronie. There's a good remix of TruSoul Davis' "In Love" by London's DJ Mystique. I think Gabrielle B. could be a grower as could Isla Kroll.

In conversation with Julio Herrera of The R&R Soul Orchestra

Steve Aggasild (SoulAndJazzFlavas) in association with SoulStrutter in conversation with Julio Herrera the leader of The R&R Soul Orchestra on Sat 3rd Sep 2022.

Julio has been a friend of the blog for quite a while (since posting this feature on them in Jan 2021) and has been keen to do an interview so who better to conduct it than one of the most experienced soul radio presenters in the UK 'The Soul Master' Steve Aggasild who has 40 year experience in soul radio.

Something that will surprise most of us is The R&R Soul Orchestra's recent UK soul chart smash hit single "Moods" was actually written 25 years ago in 1997!

They released a self titled album The R&R Soul Orchestra in 2015 which Julio says in interview 'rolled' off the digital platforms so he remastered it and re-released it in the last week or so. NB the album doesn't contain "Moods".
