SoulStrutter Selections of the Week Q2 2022 Mix

A mix of all the SoulStrutter Selections of the Week for 2022 Q2 (week 14 to week 26). There is a link to the Q1 mix below. As some of the selections were albums there are 20 tracks as more than one track from some albums have been included.

You may  be wondering why perhaps some of your favourites may have been missed in either the Q1 or Q2 mix. Each week only one track is selected, occasionally an EP or album. As you can appreciate some weeks a difficult choice has to be made when there is plenty of good material around and other weeks it may be a bit of a Hobson's choice. Therefore, some weeks some great tracks don't quite make the cut. So, to compensate for that, I'll be doing a couple more mixes back tracking though each quarter to produce a mixes for those that 'got away'.

Alex Slay & Clover Jamez [2022] - Marathon [Lightning In A Bottle]

Drag out the Queen's Jubilee bunting one more time as I've found a half decent male vocal to post!

Alex Slay is from a small town, Ocala, in Florida and cut his teeth on cruise ships and traveling the world as a music teacher. He moved to Nashville, TN, and has been making a name for himself in Music City's budding RnB scene.

After self releasing an album "Outlier" in 2019 (available on his website and Soundcloud) he released his first single "Cherry Wine" in 2020, following it with another in 2021. He released his first of 2022, "Marathon" which features Nashville artist/producer Clover Jamez, on 20 Jul 2022.

LOKRE [2022] - Something From Nothing [Ecclectic Electrix Inc.]

Liz LOKRE (pronounced lock-ree) states that her sound comes from her Indo-Trinidadian and Irish roots and influences such as Sade, Alicia Keys and Nelly Furtado.

Whist Atlanta seems to be the city of the day, Toronto is another hotbed of emerging neo soul artists and this is where LOKRE is from.

LORKE has been recording since 2016 and her latest single "Something From Nothing" was released on Wed (20 Jul) and a supporting video for it premiered on you Tube yesterday

reina [2022] - Do The Thing [w.a.u]

Tokyo based artist reina debuted in Jun 2022 with "Luxury" and followed it up on Wed (20 Jul) with "Do The Thing".

Her debut single is also included below as I think it's well worth hearing as it is only just over a month old so still relevant.

Yet more female neo soul and another hang over from Thursday. I think perhaps as yesterday was so poor for good new material, listening back to these now they are sounding much better today?

Liv Averie [2022] - Flowers in June (The Moon) [Sound of Light Records]

Liv Averie (Olivia Shaw) is yet another relatively new artist and another from Atlanta, GA, although she originally hails from Vancouver (Canada). She describes herself as a future jazz and soul artist.

Her latest single, which is only her third since her first in 2020, is "Flowers in June (The Moon)" was released on Thursday (21 Jul).

Whilst I say new artist, I should really say new to recording as she has videos on her YouTube channel going back 6 years to 2016.
