Ingram Street [2021] - Paint The Town (Nigel Lowis Dance Steppers Remix) [Self Released]

Ingram Street's "Paint The Town" originally released as the title track of their sophomore album in 2020 gets a Nigel Lowis Steppers RemixThis is the third post today where Lowis has been involved! Who is this Nigel Lowis anyway, he's omnipresent?  I just seem to take him for granted and have never really dug deeper.

He is 62 yr old (born 6th Feb 1959) songwriter, producer, remixer from Kent and it would seem that his career really got started in 1990 and to date has almost 400 credits on Discogs which will not include the multitude of remixes he has done over the last few years that have been digital only!

He had his first hit in 1990 with Maureen Walsh (who was previously with Bomb The Bass) on a cover of Sister Sledge's "Thinking Of You". He has worked with Eternal, Louise, Dina Carroll, Lulu, Pauline Henry (The Chimes) and a host of other, mainly UK, artists from the 90s and beyond. I think I first really became aware of him via a remix of Ola Onabule "Soul Town" around 2015. It seems he may have taken a hiatus between 2006-15 as there is nothing much listed for him for those dates.

Ingram Street are brothers Howard “Minquel” Ingram & Daniel “Woody” Ingram who released their debut album "Escapism" in 2015. They released another album "Paint The Town" in 2020 produced by another 'ever present' Preston Glass. The current single, released on 16 Jul 2021, is a remix of the title track.

Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Chicago Feat. Stephanie Mills [2021] - Never Knew Love [Inspired People]

A stomping Gospel version of Stephanie Mills 1980 hit "Never Knew Love Like This Before", on which she also features, by Pastor Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Chicago with the title shortened to "Never Knew Love".  It was Stephanie Mills' biggest hit reaching #4 in UK and #6 Hot 100 in 1980.

I've also 'dug up' an original video of Stephanie Mills performing it from 1980.

Nate Smith Feat. Brittany Howard [2021] - Fly (For Mike) [Edition Records]

A new single "Fly (For Mike)(released 16 Jul 2021) from Nate Smith featuring Brittany Howard which is probably more for the connoisseurs as this is very jazz oriented (Smith is a jazz drummer).  Brittany Howard was last featured here in March with a remix by Fred Again & Joy Anonymous of "Stay High again..."  which I loved but it appears no one else did!

It is a dual single (two pre-released tracks from a forthcoming album Kinfolk2: See The Birds due 17 Sep) with another track titled "Square Wheel" which is what I'd describe as 'jazz hop' (for the jazz-heads and not the faint-hearted!) and features Michael Mayo (whose debut album "Bones" was posted a few weeks back) and Kokayi on rap duties.

Frankie Gaye [2021] - Crystal Ball / What Goes Around [Representative #R-50001 / Izipho Soul #ZP62]

Another pair of Ian Levine produced tracks from the 90s by Frankie Gaye (Marvin's younger brother) were released today (21 Jul 2021) by Izipho Soul.

"Crystal Ball", written by Gaye and originally a 9:11 album track (from "My Brother") from 1991, gets a Nigel Lowis remix.

"What Goes Around" (written by Gaye, Levine and Steven Wagner) is the much better Clive Scott Remix, the original has that 'synthesised' Levine sound. It starts off very similar to Magic Night "If You And I Had Never Met" to my ears!

Note these are limited to 300 copies only. To order click on label image to go to Izipho Soul store. A donation from sales will be contributed to PSDS a charity providing support for children with downs syndrome and their families.

G.C. Cameron [2021] - Straight In The Eye / No Need To Explain [Izipho Soul #ZP63]

Ian Levine 'haters' look away now as two of his Motorcity tracks, written with G.C. Cameron in the 90s, have been officially reissued today (21 Jul 2021) by Izipho Soul (on a Streetwalk imprint), "Straight In The Eye", being treated to a Nigel Lowis remix.

"No Need To Explain" was released on "Right Or Wrong" in 1991 and on 12" in 1992, and I think "Straight In The Eye" was an album only track but appeared on several albums as was the case with much of Levine's material. It cropped up on a number of different compilations e.g. it appears on  Stars Of Motorcity, The Sound of Motorcity, The Soul Sensations Collection, Summer Beach Party, The Best of G.C. Cameron but seems to have appeared first on Motorcity Beach Party in 1991!

Patrick (Biggerstaff the Izipho Soul supremo) tells me that he was approached by Ian Levine to release some tracks, hence the different label designs, but you'll note the Izipho Soul cat. no. 'distributed by' and website address. Patrick got to choose the B side, one of Levine's best productions, which gets a 45 release for the first time.
