Generally each week there are one or two 'stunners' that appear. This
week's award, so far, goes to this tremendous track "Stay A Little While", released 24 Jun 2021, from an independent artist named Penzillathegreat. The harmonies on
this are just so 'creamy'! Unless something very special materialises later
this week, this one is ear marked for the SoulStrutter Selection of the Week for
Sunday!
I managed to find another track by her called "Too Late" released on 14
Jun 2021, which is also very good. It's only 1:45 long
though!
The backstory to these tunes is that they were both featured in a Showtime TV
series "The Chi" in season 4 episode 4. Penzillathegreat is an alias for Francci
Richard from L.A. ("Stay A While" was originally credited to Frankie when posted on YT
on 16 Jun).
She wrote both songs with Jeffrey 'Flow' Anderson and producer Yxshua.
"Too Late " was written three years ago and was sent to Derryck 'Big Tank'
Thornton who is the music supervisor for the series and he programmed it
into a scene in S04E04. "Stay A Little While" was written specifically for
the show and featured in the same episode "The Girl From Chicago" which
aired on 13 Jun 2021. Since then the songs have 'exploded' with viewers
trying to track them down, to the extent that they are both now available
on DSP's.
Whilst digging around I also found another song that also featured in a TV
series
Power Book II: Ghost
episode 7 called "Get Right", I believe she also wrote/recorded another for the show called "Mirror" but it isn't up to the the same standard as the others.
There is an artist named Francci Richard with several releases since 2017 but I suspect it's a different artist as the music is completely different i.e. pop/EDM. Also a Francesca 'Francci' Richard has written songs recorded by Leela James ("Say That"), Charlie Wilson ("Shawty Come Back") and Adina Howard ("L.O.V.A."), so it would be interesting to know if she's the same person. I've also just discovered that she was a writer on Johnny Gill's "Game Changer II" album in 2019.
