BDQ is Bunn Debrett Quintet, a UK jazz quintet headed
by percussionist & drummer, Stephen Bunn (Bunny), and guitarist and
piano player Jon DeBrett (formerly of 90s Acid Jazz band Mother Earth)
along with Alan Barnes, Neil Corcoran, Roger Beaujolais.
This single features the vocals of Lydia Sharpe who met the group by
chance in conversation in a Soho, London, tailor's shop whilst one was being
measured for a pair of trousers. She told them that she was a singer and
after singing a few lines she was invited into the studio and these two
songs, "Bad Girl" and "Could This Be Love", with others to come, is the
result.
The single was available on vinyl via
Bandcamp, released 10 Feb, but has now sold out but you may find one from a record
dealer.
Both songs are covers, "You've Been a Bad Girl" was recorded by Billy Hawks in 1968 on "Heavy Soul!" (the same album that contained "O' Baby (I Believe I'm Losing You)") and "Could This Be Love" by Rosco (Gordon) & Barbara (Kerr) on Old Town 1964.
