IshMaleSings [2022] - What Can We Do? (NO RAP Version) [Self Released] EXCLUSIVE

A teaser for IshMaleSings "A Heart's Journey" album was posted yesterday with a video for the killer cut "What Can We Do?" which features H20-Flow on rap.

A few have commented on the rap 'spoiling it', so for the purists I asked Sammie if he had, or could do, a no-rap version which he has graciously provided. So here it is. This is a SoulStrutter exclusive and not available commercially (yet).

I have approval to distribute to radio DJs who want a copy to help promote the track and the album, so if you want a copy then email soulstrutter@gmail.com including your show name and radio station.

Note: Please do not contact the artist directly for it as he is busy promoting his album and has a show this evening!

Roy G. Hemmings [2022] - You Got Everything To Make Me Happy [Quantize Recordings #QTZ394]

Roy G. Hemmings is a veteran of the British soul music scene. In the mid 70s he was a member of Birmingham's (UK) J.A.L.N. Band (Just Another Lonely Night") playing mainly disco, funk and soul with a hint of reggae. They had a hit with a song Roy wrote, "Disco Music (I Like It)", in 1976 which was the first 12" single on the Magnet label.

From around 1990 until 2004 Hemmings was a member of The Drifters. This was one of many post Atlantic period splinter groups calling themselves The Drifters. This incarnation was managed by Faye Treadwell under the management company was called Treadwell Drifters Inc.

As well as three albums with J.A.L.N. Band, Roy has released three solo albums "No Afro, No Sequins, No Flares" (1997), "All Talked Out" (1999) and  "Philly vs Motown" (2017). In the 80s he also released a few singles as Roy Gee & Energee.

So here we are in 2022 and Roy has a new single "You Got Everything To Make Me Happy" produced by Reel People's Toni Economides and Mike Patto. Patto also plays keys on the track with Ernie McKone on bass and guitar and Dahlia Rowe on backing vocals. There is the original mix and instrumental along with a Quantize Recording's head honcho Sean Spencer's "DJ Spen Remix". Whoever would have imagined we'd ever see an ex-Drifter on a soulful house tune!

It's currently only available via Traxsource with a wider release date of 16 Sep 2022.

Whilst digging around for links I also noticed that Manny 'The REALM' Rahelu has also got a remix of it available via Bandcamp, also on 16 Sep 2022.

Those Guys From Athens [2022] - Too Slow To Disco Edits 10: Those Guys From Athens [TSTD]

Those Guys From Athens are Greek duo DJ Snatch & Blacksoul who got together in Dec 2019. They released a set of four edits via Too Slow To Disco on Friday (2 Sep 2022).

The lead track "Burnin' Up" is a rework of Champaign's "I'm On Fire" from their 1981 debut album "How 'Bout Us" which has been given the nod of approval from group leader Pauli Carman who has re-recorded the vocals for this release.

The second track "She" is annoyingly familiar that I can't place. "So Nice" is Leroy Hutson "So Nice" ("Unforgettable" 1979) and the final track, of course, is Brief Encounter's "Human" (1977)

The four tracks are available digitally or as a pair of coloured, limited edition, 7" vinyl singles. "Burning Up" has also been released digitally on the main DSPs. e.g. Amazon.

Pete Belasco [2022] - One / Sweeter [Jai Alai #JAR07]

Pete Belasco is a multi-instrumentalist (keyboards, synths, vibes, saxophone and flute) from New York who and began his career in 1993

He signed to Verve and released his first album "Get It Together" in 1997. After moving to Florida he was involved in a boating accident in which he injured his hands, and wasn't able to play instruments for several moths, he turned his hand (no pun) to singing and composing.

He has released a further three albums "Deeper" (2003), "Lights On" (2012) and "Strong And Able" (2019).

The focus of this latest Jai Alai vinyl release are two tracks from his third album "Lights On", "One" and "Sweeter", which he released on his own Eaak label after a nine year hiatus and appear on vinyl for the first time.

Both tracks are laid back, almost smooth jazz, songs on which his light falsetto vocals have been compared to Curtis Mayfield in particular with hints of Smokey and Marvin. They are the antithesis of the other Jai Alai release contrasting with Willie Walker's raw and gritty southern soul vocals.
