Don't be put off by the title as heavy funk it ain't!

Ronya-Lee & The Light Factory [2023] - Runaway [Self Released]

Ronya-Lee (Ronya-Lee LaVaune Anderson) is a Caribbean-American folk-soul singer-songwriter from Washington, DC, born to Jamaican immigrants.

She began her career as a dancer/choreographer and performance artist but developed her unique musical stylings using folk, soul, and rock with a stroke of psychedelia.

Her first single "Light" was released a year ago on 14 Feb '22 and is from her forthcoming debut EP "The Light Sessions". Three more singles have followed including her latest "Runaway" on 17 Feb '23.

Erica LeShai [2023] - Stingy [Self Released]

Digging back a few weeks for the first release by Erica LeShai since her five track EP "The Love Movement" in Sep 2021 which featured Raheem DeVaughn on the lead track "Time Off Remix". 

Her latest single "Stingy" was released on 3 Feb '23 and is one of those wispy neo soul tunes.

Erica is an indie artist from L.A. who appears to have debuted in April 2012 with an album "Glass Ceilings" which is only now available via Bandcamp.

Almira Zaky [2023] - You Don't Know Me [Boss Records]

Almira Zaky is of Indonesian descent from Virginia. She emerged in 2020 and to date has released seven singles and a debut album "Learn To Love" in Mar '22.

Her latest single "You Don't Know Me" was released on Friday (24 Feb '23), and by sheer 'coincidence' (?) was released by Boss Records (same as the "Unreleased Gems" posted earlier) but I don't think it's the same company.

Last year she was nominated to represent her state in, God forbid, The American Song Contest (which mirrors the Eurovision version) and released "Over You" as her last single which was her entry.

Joe Johnson [2023] - What's The Matter With You / I Still Love You [Cannonball #CBLL039]

Announced back in mid December was a new vinyl single by Joe Johnson for release on Cannonball Records. It's available from today and consists of two tracks from a hard to find private press album ("Sounds Forever" on Gran Mill John)  available on single for the first time.

The album is not dated but by the sound of the A side of the single "What's The Matter With You", and the sleeve images, it indicates late 60s/early 70s, with "I Still Love" sounding more like late 60s. The five tracks on the A side of the album all seem to be early 60s and even late 50s songs whilst the B side consists of original songs written by several of the band members with both sides of the single written by Cleo Parks.

The band was made up of Joe Johnson and family members(?) Ira Johnson (piano), Claude Johnson (electric piano), TJ Johnson (harmonica) and Randy Barker (bass guitar), Cleo Parks (lead guitar), Eddie Henderson (bass guitar), Louis Fields (drums).
