LaTasha Lee [2024] - He's So Easy To Love [Industry Music Group]

LaTasha Lee's latest offering released today digs up another dusty by Roddie Joy (real name Rita Coleman aka Rita Fortune) from 1965.

The Mike Lewis and Earline Phillips written song is "He's So Easy To Love" that was tucked away on the B side to "The La La Song" on Leiber & Stoller's Red Bird label.

Joy released three singles for the label before switching to Parkway in 1966 where she released another four before the label went bust in 1967. Nothing was recorded afterwards (in that name) so perhaps she settled down and had a family. However, Discogs states that she was also known as Rita Fortune who released a disco single "Sisters And Brothers" (Columbia 1974), which we're not sure sounds like her, but the connection with Mike Lewis and Stuart Weiner (who produced all her Red Bird singles) are there, so perhaps it is?

Joy's first single in 1965, "Come Back Baby" (also co-written by Lewis with Ricki Lisi), has had exposure on the rare soul scene and was covered the year after by The Stoppers on Jubilee along with a cover of "The La La Song". It was their only release.

We posted a couple of albums by Lee earlier this year, "Compositions of LaTasha Lee & Salih Williams" consisting of material that she only appears to have released via YouTube. The other was a reissue of her first album "LaTasha Lee & The Black Ties" in 2014. Both are no longer available as they seem to have been withdrawn from digital platforms.

Available digitally back in July last year when we originally posted it, LaTasha Lee's single "We Got A Good Thing" is now available on 7" vinyl from Industry Music Group via Bandcamp from 11 Mar with an instrumental B side.

She has been hyperactive over the last few weeks with a compilation of unreleased songs "Compositions of LaTasha Lee and Salih Williams" and a reissue of her 2014 debut album "LaTasha Lee & The Black Ties" as well as a cover song "I Dont Wanna Cry" originally recorded by The After Hours on Condor in 1971.

Latasha Lee [2024] - I Dont Wanna Cry [Industry Music Group]

The third release in just over a week from Latasha Lee. The first was a compilation of songs from the last ten years, "Compositions of LaTasha Lee & Salih Williams", the second a reissue of her debut album "Latasha Lee & The Black Ties" and today a new single "I Dont Wanna Cry".

It's a cover of a song written and recorded by The After Hours on Condor in 1971 which appears to be their only recording.

LaTasha Lee & The Black Ties [2024] - LaTasha Lee & The Black Ties [Self Released] (Full Album)

Last week LaTasha Lee released an album of 14 songs, "Compositions of LaTasha Lee & Salih Williams", recorded between 2014 - 2021. All but the last two songs had been posted on YouTube but, as we've discovered over the years, much of her material hasn't been available to download, so perhaps this album represents their first 'official' release?

This week she appears to have digitally reissued her debut album "LaTasha Lee & The Black Ties" from 2014 which contains another 14 songs.

As with last week's album it's very retro, early 60s / doo-wop, oriented. A couple of songs have a reggae feel: "Heart Breaker", "Loving One Another" and "Left Hand Side (which seems to borrow from "Pass The Dutchie") and is our pick from the album. A couple of songs utilise samples;  "Crazy" (Temptations' "My Girl"), "Get Away" (Neil Sedaka's "Oh Carol").
