LaTasha Lee [2024] - He's So Easy To Love [Industry Music Group]

LaTasha Lee's latest offering released today digs up another dusty by Roddie Joy (real name Rita Coleman aka Rita Fortune) from 1965.

The Mike Lewis and Earline Phillips written song is "He's So Easy To Love" that was tucked away on the B side to "The La La Song" on Leiber & Stoller's Red Bird label.

Joy released three singles for the label before switching to Parkway in 1966 where she released another four before the label went bust in 1967. Nothing was recorded afterwards (in that name) so perhaps she settled down and had a family. However, Discogs states that she was also known as Rita Fortune who released a disco single "Sisters And Brothers" (Columbia 1974), which we're not sure sounds like her, but the connection with Mike Lewis and Stuart Weiner (who produced all her Red Bird singles) are there, so perhaps it is?

Joy's first single in 1965, "Come Back Baby" (also co-written by Lewis with Ricki Lisi), has had exposure on the rare soul scene and was covered the year after by The Stoppers on Jubilee along with a cover of "The La La Song". It was their only release.

We posted a couple of albums by Lee earlier this year, "Compositions of LaTasha Lee & Salih Williams" consisting of material that she only appears to have released via YouTube. The other was a reissue of her first album "LaTasha Lee & The Black Tiesin 2014. Both are no longer available as they seem to have been withdrawn from digital platforms.
