Claire Davis [2023] - Get It Right [LRK Records #LP03] (Full Album)

Well the much vaunted, some may claim hyped, debut album "Get It Right" by Claire Davis is finally out today (21 Apr '23).

We've already had a taste of several tracks i.e. "Intuition", "Times Have Changed", "Long Gone". Quite often we find that it is the best tracks that have been pre-released as singles and we are left a tad disappointed with the remainder but no so with this album which opens with two killer cuts, the title track "Get It Right" and "What's Mine" and then, skipping over two of the singles, we get another superb slice of soul with "Love Stories". In fact there is no 'filler' on the entire album which closes with a smouldering low-rider "Colours".

An authentic retro soul album recorded to 8 track tape which is another to be filed under candidate for album of the year joining the ranks of October London, Will Downing and Kyle Jason.

We've waxed lyrical about Ms Davis on several occasions so just click one of the links above for more information on the Toronto-based artist who we've witness evolving over the last few years since we posted her "Thrive" EP in June '21 which was later picked up on by LRK Records who have released several singles and now a debut album from her.

Highly recommended, sometimes the hype is real!

It is available on all major digital platforms but we have posted from Bandcamp as this gives the best return to artists/labels and also it is available on CD and Vinyl from there and I can see this one selling out rather quickly on vinyl so get your order in now.

This is another case of why buy digital for £10 when you can have both CD AND digital for £10.99.

Claire Davis [2023] - Intuiton [LRK Records] OUT TODAY

Previously posted from promo on 16 Jan, the latest, and third single, from Toronto's Claire Davis on LRK Records is out today (27 Jan 2023). This one is only available digitally but will be on a her forthcoming sophomore album "Get It Right" due for release on 21 Apr 2023.

The single is a retro, mid-tempo, song about trusting your gut titled "Intuition" and I think is my favourite from her to date. The song is a collaborative effort with her writing partner Scott McCannell who gave her the track  to compose melody and lyrics for which she says:

"I'm a big proponent of following your gut and not playing games with people. My theory is, you always know what the right move is but we can get in our own way by overthinking. Sometimes in relationships we’re scared to say what we feel out of fear, but we always have the answers within us".

The soulful background vocals, performed by Aphrose, Tegan Michelle Gordon and Chynna Lewis, were arranged by another trusted collaborator La-Nai Gabriel. Sounds like a good name for a band The Collaborators!

The third single follows "Long Gone" / "Times Have Changed"  from last year and "Thrive " / "Playground" from 2021 and in between she featured with The HP's on their single "Hope To See You Again" / "Better Things" all released on LRK Records digitally and on vinyl (which are more than likely now sold out so don't sleep on this on if/when it comes out on vinyl).
