Pressure Point & P.P. Arnold [2024] - Dream All Night (JoY aNd EaRs Remix) [Blow it Hard Records]

When you think of the name P.P. Arnold perhaps you recall her original version of "The First Cut Is The Deepest" (Immediate 1967), covered by many, possibly most famously by Rod 'The Mod' Stewart almost ten years later in 1976, but many had covered the Cat Stevens written song before him.

Patricia Ann Cole (to give her real name) was a member of The Ikettes in 1965 before moving to London the following year and has stayed ever since.

In 1989 she recorded an album with Pressure Point, "This Is London" on Viceroy Records. One of the singles from the album was "Dreaming". It's been reworked for 2024 by Jason Yarde with a new title "Dream All Night" and includes two JoY aNd EaRs Remixes, a full DJ Mix and Radio Edit.

Victor Haynes [2024] - Like The Old Days (Remix) [Expansion Records]

The same day as his new album release, Expansion Records has released a remix of Victor Haynes' last single "Like The Old Days".

We can't, hand on heart, say that we can tell any immediate difference as they have the same key and tempo and only the duration seems to differ with the remix being 3:51 v 4:09, but I guess if we were to forensically examine both then there must be some difference?

We'll post post and you can decide.

DMB feat. Mary Jane Girls [2024] - ALL NITE LONG [ESOP]

The Mary Jane Girls' biggest UK hit, "All Night Long", peaking at #13 on UK pop chart in July 1983, is the subject of the latest remix by DMB (Do More Bass) who seemed to emerge last year and now have around 25 remixes to their name.

The Mary Jane Girls started out as Rick James' backing singers in 1979 and eventually became a group in their own right releasing two albums on Motown in 1983 and 1985 respectively. They achieved eight R&B chart hits in that time with "In My House" being their biggest stateside (#3 R&B / #7 Hot 100) and "All Night Long" in the UK.

The Jack Moves [2024] - Somebody's Watching You (XL Middleton Remix) [ Everloving, Inc.]

Cast your mind back to Spring '22 when The Jack Moves released the lead single "Somebody's Watching You" from their, then forthcoming, album, "Cruiserweight".

A new XL Middleton Remix has been released today. We said at the time that we felt that it was similar in feel to Keni Burke's 1982 classic "Risin' To The Top" in parts.

Musiq Soulchild [2024] - Just Friends (Sunny) (DJ Soulchild Remix) [Humble Savage Records]

Unleashed on Bandcamp (and YouTube) today is the latest remix from Basel's DJ Soulchild.

He says "I've always felt like there's never been a decent club-friendly version of this Musiq Soulchild classic, so I wanted to change that with my groovy Future Funk approach". 

The song was Musiq Soulchild's debut (and lead single) from his debut album "Aijuswanaseing" in 2000 and reached #6 R&B and #31 Hot 100, not bad for a debut?  

It was subtitled "Just Friends (Sunny)" with Bobby Hebb's name added to the credits, so presumably it samples portions of "Sunny" but we can't really detect it, perhaps it's the chord progressions?

DJ Soulchild ups the tempo and beefs up the bassline for, as he says, club friendliness, with elements of Gwen McCrae's "Funky Sensation".

It's available only via DJ Soulchild's Bandcamp store.

Acantha Lang [2024] - He Said/She Said (Lack Of Afro Remix) [Magnolia Blue Records]

Out today is a Lack Of Afro Remix of Acantha Lang's debut single "He Said/She Said" originally released in Oct 2020 and featured on her debut album "Beautiful Dreams" last June.

It's a tighter and even funkier take on the original which we will also post a video for, for comparison.
