Rae Khalil [2024] IS IT WORTH IT [APE SHIT Records]

Generally regarded as one of the highlights of the year so far that has received, and is still receiving, lots of attention (it's had almost 600k streams on Spotify alone) is Rae Khalil's "IS IT WORTH IT" (posted on initial day of release (16 Feb) along with the live video version) has been reissued along with live and instrumental versions.

Ms Khalil is from Torrance, CA, and has been around for several years, initially going by the name Ill Tha Don. She recorded her debut hip-hop album "Girlfriend" in 2018 and in 2019 was a contestant on the Netflix reality music show "Rhythm and Flow" after which she met up with Anderson .Paak's backing band, Free Nationals, who played on her second album "FORTHEWORLD" in 2020.

In 2021 she won a Grammy for her songwriting and vocals on .Paak's "Lockdown" and he signed her to his APE SHIT label with "IS IT WORTH IT" being her debut single for the label on which he plays drums and produces.

It's from her forthcoming third album "CRYBABY" due later this year. The album opener, "Hot Track", features a sample from a classic song by one of her grandmother's closest friend's, O.C. Smith.

Rae Khalil [2024] - IS IT WORTH IT [APE SHIT]

Now here's a name we weren't familiar with until she cropped up on Pip Millet's "Eating Out" single recently and included on her four track EP "Tell Jimmy" released on 15 Feb. However, we have subsequently realised that she also featured on CARRTOONS "Grace" single last year and also featured on "Lights" on  CARRTOONS "Homegrown" album in 2022. 

It's Rae Khalil (aka Ill Tha Don) who has her own single out called "IS IT WORTH IT". She's from Torrance, CA, and was a contestant on the Netflix music competition "Rhythm + Flow" in 2019.

We note that the music video for the new single was directed by Anderson .Paak (who also plays drums on the recording) as she has just signed to his APE SHIT label, a part of Def Jam, and this is her debut for the label.

CARRTOONS feat. Rae Khalil [2023] - Grace [Wichita Recordings]

The first single from an upcoming album "Saturday Night" (set for release on 6 Oct) by New York multi-instrumentalist/producer Ben Carr, aka CARRTOONS, is "Grace" released on 15 Aug.

The track features Grammy winning songwriter and R&B/Hip-Hop artist Rae Khalil from Torrance, CA, who has been endorsed by the likes of Anderson .Paak, Queen Latifah and Chance The Rapper. She also featured on a track on CARRTOONS' last album "Homegrown" (Apr '22).

The new fourteen track album will be CARRTOONS' seventh full length project although, curiously, the first was titled "CARTOONS Vol III" but Vols. I & II were both three track EPs from 2017 and appear to be only available on Bandcamp.

CARRTOONS' most recent work was featuring on all tracks on Reuben James' "Champagne Kisses" album in Jun '23.
